Chapter 21

*Shelby's P.O.V*

"So why are we here?" I asked my brother, Aaron.

"I've been talking to this whisperer. She wanted to meet up here." He explained.

My brother was talking to a whisperer? Umm about what? It could be about a million different things. We were at the border and we were on one side of it and I'm guessing this whisperer will be on the other side of the border.

"How long has this been happening?" I then asked.

He shrugged. "Only a few days."

I nodded and then looked up. I saw the whisperer. What surprised me was that this was the same whisperer that Magna and I had seen when we were on a run. The whisperer was wearing a pink shirt with a blue and white flannel over it.

"You alright?" My brother asked the whisperer.

"Is the baby still alive?" The whisperer asked.

"The baby that was rescued at Hilltop?" Aaron questioned before answering, "Yes."

"He's my nephew."

I looked at this whisperer real closely. Is she actually being serious? But by the tone of her voice, she sounded serious.

"Oh, I didn't know that." Aaron said.

"Did you ever name him?" She asked. "My sister didn't. She couldn't."

"The family raising him named him Adam." My brother told her.

Adam, the baby that I babysit sometimes and also Alden, is this woman's nephew. That's so crazy.

"Can I see him?" She asked.

"Your people left him to die. Why would we ever agree to that?" Aaron eyed her.

"Because we can trade." She said, "I have information for you."

"What is it?" He asked.

"Promise me I can see him."

Aaron looked at her. "I can't promise you anything. I'll listen to what you have, see if it's true, and then we can talk."

"He's the only family I have left." She said, sadly.

"Well, then, you better tell the truth. Without your mask." He told her. "Oh, and this is my sister, Shelby."

I sent her a light smile and she did the same. She took off her whisperer mask and stared at the two of us.

"Before all this, my name was Mary." She said.

"What was your name after Mary?" I asked.

"Alpha anointed me as Gamma." She tells me. "But please call me Mary."

"Hi, Mary." My brother said, "What do you wanna tell me?"

After our talk with Mary we went back to Alexandria.

"Do you think she's telling the truth about where the horde is?" I asked Aaron as we walked past the gate.

He slowly nodded. "I don't think she's lying. She seems to be truthful."

Aaron and I walked into the infirmary to see that Rosita kicked Dante off the bed and then she walked out angrily.

What the hell happened?

"He's been here four months. How didn't I know?" My brother asked.

"None of us did." Daryl said.
