Chapter 25

*Alden's P.O.V*

I was with Earl as we were releasing catapults out to the walkers. We were on top of the platform that was at the top of the gate of Hilltop.

My spear was in one of my hands as Earl and I were looking out to see what was happening.

There was a lot of fire and unfortunately, we won't be able to stop it. Not this time.

Then Earl and I quickly got off the platform that we were on because more fire started happening and a wall fell down. I took my spear and started killing walkers with everyone else.

One by one, I put my spear through a walker's skull.

I didn't know how many walkers there really were but I just had a feeling there were a lot. But I wasn't letting it bother me because I was in the zone. I was releasing some emotions that I've been feeling lately after what I've heard about what happened to Shelby. I'm still unsure about what happened.

But I continued killing walkers that were in Hilltop.

When I turned around to kill another one, I froze in my tracks.

It was like I forgot I was in the middle of war at the moment because what was in front of me seemed like the only thing that mattered.

I wanted to tell myself that this wasn't real. But it was right in front of me. Of course, it was real.

Standing in front of me was Shelby. She was standing next to Magna and they were both covered in dirt and blood and walking with the walkers.

They blended in so that they wouldn't die.

I see to my side that Yumiko noticed them too.

Shelby walked over to me as Magna went to Yumiko. I immediately went to hug her and I didn't care if I was getting dirt and blood all over me. I'm just glad that Shelby is back.

"You're alive." I let out as I pulled away from the hug to look at her.

She nodded. "Yes, I am. I'm not dying yet. If I was dying then I'm gonna say goodbye to you first."

I smiled and then brought her in for another hug. She's alive and I feel complete once again.

Seeing her instantly made me feel better. I've been down for days without her being here and now that she's back, it's all okay.

When we were done hugging, I saw Aaron making his way over to us. He had a look of shock on his face but he also looked happy at the same time. He was getting ready to cry because Shelby was back.

I was getting ready to cry too if I'm being honest.

Aaron walked over to Shelby and gave her a hug while a few tears left his eyes.

A brother and sister bond is special.

I smiled just seeing the two of them hug and I knew how much this meant to both Aaron and I. We were so worried about her and we were just waiting for her to come back. And now she was back.

And so was Magna.

Connie wasn't with them when they returned so I hope she's okay.

"Alden, come over here." Aaron said.

I went over to them and then Aaron put his arm around me. We all shared a group hug together.

We're definitely family, alright.

The three of us pulled away from the hug and then Aaron started to speak. "Now this feels right."

I smiled, agreeing with him. "Maybe things will be okay after this."
