7) Surprise for Alden

*Shelby's P.O.V*

"I'm going to go right now and tell him." I told Maggie after I finished eating a sandwich.

"He'll be thrilled." Maggie smiled and that made me smile back.

So just yesterday, I found out that I was pregnant.

I should've known from the beginning that when I was throwing up in the mornings before I went back to get Alden at the church that those were signs of me being pregnant.

And the first time I threw up, it was when I was at the house with Aaron.

How did Aaron not think of that either?

But I was walking towards our room because I know Alden was busy cleaning up his wound from the war with the reapers.

We've only been here at hilltop for about a week and he's still putting medicine and wrapping the wound in bandages.

Alden has been trying to get enough rest too because of the mission we were on.

I got to our room where Adam was sleeping in his crib and Alden was putting bandages on his wound.

"You need any help?" I asked him.

"Nah." He shook his head, "I got it."

With a final layer of bandage, he tapped it and then he carefully sat down on the bed and had his hand on his stomach.

"It still hurts?"

He nodded. "Yeah, but the medicine is working to not make it hurt any more."

"The reapers really were trying to kill you." I said softly as I gently touched his stomach.

"We both got injured in some way." He looked at me.

I still have the red mark on my forehead. It was starting to become a scar.

"That scar makes you badass though." He grinned while he ran a finger on the mark.

I laughed. "Yeah, I bet it does."

"Well, come here. I missed you even though I saw you a couple hours ago." Alden said and he pulled me closer to him.

Then he planted his lips onto mine and immediately I smile into the kiss. I felt him smiling as well as we were kissing each other.

Then we pulled away.

"I have some news to tell you." I then said.

He hummed. "And what would that be?"

"I'm pregnant."

It took a few seconds for him to process the news but then after a bit, he started to smile a little more.

"Wait, seriously?" He asked and I nodded.

"We're going to have another baby." I said. "That's why I was throwing up. Do you remember I told you when we were in the church? I didn't know what was happening at first and I know that I should've figured it out."

"I should've known too." He nodded. "But this is great. We're going to be parents again."

"Adam is going to be an older brother."

I can tell that Alden is excited to be a dad again. He was so close to Adam when he first came to hilltop and was in care of Earl.

"I know that it's really early to discuss this but I have a name suggestion." He said.

"What's the name?" I asked.

He smiled. "Holland. In honor of my brother."

Then Alden continued. "I knew that if I was going to have kids and one of them was a boy then I wanted to name him Holland after my brother. In a way to honor him."

"I like that name." I nodded. "It's perfect."

"You're perfect."

Then after Alden said that, he planted another kiss on my lips and then he pulled away.

He was just looking at me with a smile on his face and then he took one of his hands and placed it on my stomach.

"Whether you're a boy or a girl, mommy and daddy is going to love you so much. We already love you and we can't wait to meet you. Adam can't wait to meet you. You have a whole lot of family excited. We'll see you soon."

Seeing Alden talking to the baby put a smile on my face. It was so sweet to see.

"And now since you're pregnant, that means you can't be put in any danger." Alden said seriously.

"What kind of danger is out there?"

"The dead is still walking and who knows, maybe there's another community out there." He shrugged.

"Well if there's another community out there then I know you will protect me." I said and he nodded, smiling.

"You got that right, babe."

Everything just seems right when I have Alden by my side and it's going to be even better because we have a baby on the way.

It's perfect. Alden's perfect.

Hello guys, here's another short story for you all.

So in this short story, Shelby tells Alden that she's pregnant.

A scene that was never in the other part of the story. We would just know that they had another kid.

And plus, a throwback to when Shelby threw up for the first time when she was with her brother, Aaron and even he didn't even know the hint that she was pregnant.

I was excited when I was requested to make this short story.

This idea didn't pop in my head when I was writing previous short stories so thank you to the person that requested it.

Also I wanted to ask. Do you guys have any other ideas for other short stories?
