Fun Facts about Missing Love

Now onto some fun facts about this book and what I was trying to figure out when writing this book.

Because a lot went on in my head and I was trying to figure out what I wanted to add.

So here are some fun facts.

1) When did Shelby become pregnant? I'll answer by saying that it was after Negan came back to Alexandria after he was "banished" she may not have gotten pregnant right away, it probably took a few days or a week or so. I said there was a few weeks time jump between chapters 35 and 36 so it may have happened during that before Alden and Shelby got busy with Adam where they weren't getting a lot of one on one time like how they explained when they went on that mission.

2) the name Holland. How did that happen? So, I was in the car looking out the window and then suddenly the name Holland popped into my head and then I started thinking about Tom Holland. That's how Shelby and Alden's kid got his name. Plus, I even wanted to have their kid's name be in honor of someone and I didn't want it to be the name Earl so I figured that since we don't know Alden's older brother's name, I can let it be in honor of his brother that he's mentioned before.

3) Original ending? There was a lot of back and forth of what was going to happen with Alden in this book. Before? Alden was going to be a walker, just like in the show. That was the original plan. But like I said, there was a lot of back and forth. Since I was then like "should I just change it and let Alden get the happy ending that he deserved?" And then I changed it. I'm glad I did because I liked how the story came out.

4) Shelby and Alden's first run. In chapter 6 I believe, we know that they go on their first run where they basically get to know each other. While I was thinking of the idea for this chapter, I remember looking up Alden and seeing information and it reminded me that Alden had a brother. Then I remembered that Aaron had a younger brother too. Then I came up with the idea that they can bond over their brothers.

5) the mission chapters. Chapters 36-38 they go on that meridian mission. The one where you know, Alden gets hurt. I wanted Shelby to always be on Negan's side but also on Alden's side. Since we know how close Shelby is to Negan but we have her relationship with Alden. Reason why when other characters are being mean to Negan, she gets mad. But when Alden says a remark, she doesn't. But these chapters are also the ones where she's against Maggie in her decisions. Reason why she was mad at Maggie for getting Gage killed and going along with Alden.

6) their kids. I was debating if Shelby was going to be pregnant or not. I have thought about just letting them have Adam but then also thought about them having a child. It was another back and forth decision and I'm glad I went with what I was thinking and write out that they have a second child.

7) brainstorming. Before this book became a book, I knew that I wanted to write an Alden book, I just needed to think of a storyline. Then I figured that it can happen after what had happened with the pikes and Alden is going through a hard time because of what had happened with Enid. I thought of that back in the summer last year. Then I started writing chapters in September and then started posting chapters in October. I've been writing this book for almost six months.

8) Shelby saying her feelings. So back in chapter 11, Shelby almost told Alden how she felt until they got interrupted by Luke. I was thinking of that special moment happening during night time but I did remember another Alden book where they talk and share their first kiss and I knew that I wanted to be different when writing this book which is why I waited until the next chapter where they're at Oceanside where they have their first kiss and also be a couple.

9) what to write? There were times where I had no idea what to write for the book. Like in chapter 16, I had no clue. Until I thought that I'll include flashbacks of when she first sees Alden and Alden helping in the all out war. But that was also when I included pride and prejudice and that was because my sister and I watched the movie a few days before I started writing that chapter. It would be hard sometimes to come up with an idea for a chapter.

10) cave situation. Remember when Shelby got trapped in the cave? That was to add suspense because I actually didn't know how to add Shelby into the whisperers war and I didn't want to have a hard time coming up with chapters until we got there. So I thought let Shelby go with her brother, Aaron and she'll join in on this run in trying to find Lydia and then somehow ended up in a cave. Then this also gave me the chance to write things in Alden's point of view.

11) timeline. By the time it's when Negan gets "banished" I actually looked up the walking dead timeline and it said that Shelby and Alden were a couple for 41 days. Did it seem like it's been that long? Then after that, I didn't go along with the timeline. But also in the show, it said that Alden was in the church for 3 days. But in the book, it made it seem like Alden was in the church for a week.
