Chapter 46

*Alden's P.O.V*

I'm really lucky to be alive right now.

I had thought for sure that I'd be a dead man by the time that Shelby had left the church to go back to Alexandria.

There was a chance that I could've died right now when that reaper came through the church. But Shelby was insisting that she'll take care of it and boy, did she. It surprised me.

She struggled a bit and I helped her out when I plunged my spear through the reaper's chest and then Shelby had finished the job.

I'm just saying, if Shelby didn't come then I would have died. We all know it.

Being in this church alone really sucked. Since there wasn't much that I could do. All that was happening was me sitting on the floor and clutching my stomach. I was thankful that it wasn't gushing out blood but damn was the wound painful.

I'm still deciding what was more painful. When the wound first happened or the aftermath.

They're both equally painful.

You wanna know what's more painful than both of those things though? It's being away from the love of my life and my son.

I missed Shelby and Adam so much. I missed holding Adam and being near Shelby.

And now that Shelby has saved me and she's currently next to me, I know that I'll be able to go home.

But we're still waiting for Maggie and Negan to come.

I know what you all are thinking.

Why not just go back to Alexandria after what had happened with the reaper? Well, here's the thing. Shelby just got hurt while fighting that reaper. Sure, it was slashes to the arm but it's probably best if we did wait for Maggie, Negan and the rest of the group to come back.

So that, we can travel back home as a group.

So that is why we're waiting for Maggie and Negan to come back to the church.

I'm really hoping that when they do come, Shelby and I can finally be able to just be with each other and have Adam with us with no worries.

The past few days have been hard but again, I'm glad Shelby is here.

"Who's taking care of Adam while you're here?" I asked her after a few more minutes of silence.

"My brother." She said.

I nodded. I'm glad Aaron is there to take care of Adam while Shelby is with me.

Aaron is like family to me too and I know that I can see him as a brother. Remember that my older brother died at the beginning of this apocalypse and I miss him as well.

Since Shelby is here now, this does give us time to have some time to ourselves.

Because as we said before, it's been awhile since we've had alone time.

"I really missed you, babe." I said.

Shelby turned to look at me. "I missed you too. Adam did as well."

I smiled lightly. "I can't wait to be back home and we'll be a family again."

She obviously seemed to like that because she then leaned in to press a kiss to my lips. I missed kissing Shelby as well.

The way that her lips were soft against mine. I missed that feeling and I know she missed it too.

Then we pulled away from the kiss.

"Once we get back to Alexandria, we have to get that wound looked at." She said.

I nodded. "I know. Maybe we'll clean it up and everything."
