"What did you want to talk about?" Shelby asked me as she looked at me.

"I wanna be able to open up to you more. So I think I'll tell you everything with how I've been feeling."

She nodded. "Oh, okay. Take your time."

I'm going to follow Earl's advice and I am just going to go for it. I'll be able to know what else I want to say as I continue to talk about it.

"As you already know, the past few months have been rough for me." I said and she nodded.

Then I continued, "Nothing has been easy lately. So I spent so much time either working with Earl or helping other people when something needed to be done. If I'm going to talk about this then I guess I would have to start from the beginning."

Shelby was listening closely to what I was saying. She definitely wanted to make sure that I was okay.

"We can go back to the day of the fair. Enid and I got candy apples and we were with Luke. He was explaining a bet that we had and he was trying to get me to sing with him at the fair. I ended up winning the bet but he still was trying to get me to sing. I went with Enid that day and she wanted to hear me sing. So I ended up agreeing to sing with Luke. We rehearsed our song and then when it was time to sing, Luke and I were on stage. I tried to concentrate but I couldn't because Enid wasn't there in the audience. Luke didn't notice that I wasn't feeling alright, he just kept singing while I stopped. Nothing felt right after that. I couldn't continue having fun since Enid wasn't around. Then the next day arrived and then, Siddiq gave that speech. About how Enid and nine other people died at the hands of Alpha. Which would explain why Enid wasn't in the audience because she was taken as a prisoner."

"You don't have to continue if you don't want to." Shelby softly said.

I shook my head. "It's okay."

I took a deep breath and started to talk again. "After the fair, we all know what happened to the Kingdom. It was crumbling apart so we helped everyone who lived there to come and live at Hilltop. I blamed Lydia for what had happened, just because she was Alpha's daughter. But I stopped to rethink my decision and then talked to Lydia and told her that I forgive her and that I didn't mean to blame her. It wasn't her fault. It was her mother's. Since her mother was the one that killed Enid and everyone else."

"When I went to Alexandria, a few days ago, it seemed that people blamed Lydia for what happened. But I know that it wasn't her fault." Shelby explained.

"It's not fair." I said. "That's why I have this kind of guilt because I wasn't there to protect her. I wish I was there to protect her. Now we have this new rule to not cross Alpha's borders. Which, to me, is ridiculous. I hope one day, Alpha gets what's coming to her."

"She will." Shelby nodded. "She can't just get away with what she has done. To our friends and family."

"One day, we'll be going to war, right?"

"Most likely." She then said.

Silence took over for a few minutes. It sent this feeling inside of my body that I can't even explain right now.

"What do you think will happen after we're done with the whisperers?" I then asked her.

She shrugged. "Hopefully, after we deal with the whisperers, we can continue living our lives. But it's hard to tell. Since we deal with one threat that's out there and then after that, another threat comes and tries to kill us. I don't ever want the day to come where I lose you."

Did I hear that right? Did she say that she doesn't want to lose me?

I looked at her. "That day won't ever come. You won't lose me."
