_______________
There was nothing that could prepare Meruem for the game he was about to play. There was no strategy or rule book, no cheat sheet or expert who could teach Meruem how to overcome the challenges of playing a game he had never even heard of until recently. He wasn't sure if he was allowed to technically call this a game, but that was the easiest way to comprehend the fact that he had to take this seriously.
Sitting in one of the Castle's rooms, Meruem's tail waved nervously in the air, or at least at a pace none of the guards had ever seen before. Surrounded by books and papers, it seemed that Meruem was unable to establish a clear set of expectations for how to perform the human custom of a birthday.
In the books that he had pilfered from the lackluster knowledge holding establishments in the city, he had only learned the definition of the term and yet nothing truly in detail about the event. He did know that it was traditional, and that unlike Chimera's, human's were inclined to celebrate it year after year. Meruem wasn't sure how the custom had come about, seeing how the species could only truly be born once, but regardless it was important to Komugi.
She had been the one to teach Meruem about what a birthday could be, and how it was more than just a yearly tradition. It was a time to celebrate and spend time with those you cared about. Meruem had been enthralled by her description, and knew that Komugi spoke so passionately about her experiences with other peoples birthdays, and how gift giving was something she really enjoyed doing. She rambled about how the money she saved from her games had gone into spoiling her large family.
Meruem could see that her eyes shined with something magical when she talked about celebrating others, but she never did talk about herself. It gave Meruem a spark of inspiration. Her kindness was blinding, and Meruem felt very strongly about wanting to keep her as happy as he could.
He knew that he could provide Komugi with any luxury, but she wanted nothing. She desired nothing but Meruem's own company, and the thrill of a good game of Gungi. But Meruem wanted, no, desired an experience with Komugi that would shape her life in a way that was memorable. With the cool months after the dreaded summer now here, the towns were getting ready for their annual festivities. A variety of foods, an assortment of odd trinkets, and the overwhelming sense of people would be different for Meruem, but probably thrilling for a quiet girl like Komugi.
Something fluttered in his chest, and he clenched his thigh in order to still something stirring inside of him. He could feel his mood change slightly, as he envisioned a night with Komugi as they traversed to the town. Yes, that would be a perfect gift. But first, Meruem moved his odd hands that were not very human like, he needed a disguise.

His royal guards stood some distance away, watching as he read and contemplated. Meruem didn't find himself too annoyed at their undivided attention but he figured that if they were here, they should make themselves useful.
"I need an appropriate attire to go out and acquire materials," Meruem closed the book in his hand with a resounding thwack. He turned cool violet eyes on the standing trio. "Any ideas?"
Ok, listen.
As one would expect, the reactions followed as thus. Pitou got excited, Youpi got confused and Pouf? Well let's just say Pouf got very opinionated about this tentative excursion.
