Summary: Killua used to dream about Gon.
He used to think Gon would show up at the mansion, unannounced and tossing rocks at his window. Or maybe Killua would answer the phone and it would be Gon's voice crying to him through the static, swearing the second he found Ging was the moment he realized all he ever really wanted was Killua.
But it never happened.
Gon never came to Killua's rescue. He never called or sent a text. He never reached out to Killua at all. And so Killua gave up. He forced himself to stop thinking about Gon. And even if he wasn't exactly happy, he was at more peace because of it.
Fate, however, seemed to enjoy torturing Killua. Because after years of pretending he'd never heard of the name Gon Freecss, the man himself appeared in front of Killua like some sort of fever dream. But Killua knew it wasn't a dream, because he gave up on dreams once he realized they never came true. So this person in front of him must be the real and true Gon Freecss.
Just the sight of him made Killua want to throw up.

Killua used to dream about Gon.
He used to think Gon would show up at the mansion, unannounced and tossing rocks at his window. Or maybe Killua would answer the phone and it would be Gon's voice crying to him through the static, claiming the biggest mistake of his life was leaving Killua behind. He used to pray every night for Gon to come back and tell him the whole time he was searching for Ging, he was only thinking of Killua. That the second he found Ging was the moment he realized all he ever really wanted was Killua.
But none of that ever happened.
Gon never came to Killua's rescue. He never called or sent a text. He never reached out to Killua a single time. And so Killua gave up. He stopped checking Gon's socials. He stopped waking up and wondering if today would be the day Gon returned to him. In fact, he forced himself to stop thinking about Gon at all.
His father didn't seem to notice Killua's nausea. "Killua," he said, his voice booming in the large ballroom. "This is Gon Freecss. We'll be working closely with his company from now on so I want you to get to know each other well."
Killua didn't say anything. How could he? His mouth was dry and his stomach churned as if he stood on the top deck of a ship at sea. And Gon was just staring back at him, eyes wide and mouth open slightly.
God, those eyes. Killua's hazy memory had done nothing to capture the warmth shining in those brown irises, the bright light there that seemed to pull Killua in stronger than gravity.
"Killua?" his father spoke again and Killua started. "Introduce yourself."
"R-Right. Uh—" Killua held out his hand, schooling his face back into his usual polite mask because it didn't matter who Gon was now, he was a stranger and Killua treated all strangers the same, "—I'm Killua Zoldyck, future heir and CEO to Kukuroo Research and Technologies. It's nice to meet you."
