Ch. 40

2 months later

I took my mom's advice and let Aaron explain himself, when I knew I was ready to listen. After I heard what he said I still thought it was best for us to have space and take a break. (Not like the one Ross and Rachel had in FRIENDS). This break hasn't ruined my friendship with Emma, thank goodness. It's now New Year's Eve and my parents and I are getting ready to go to the Coleman's for their annual New Year's Eve party. I really don't want to go, but I haven't seen Emma since we started Christmas Break.

"Ready?" My mom yells from the bottom of the stairs. "I'm coming." I walk down the stairs in a really pretty red dress with a lacey flower across the chest. "You look gorgeous, sweetie." "Thanks mom." I smile and we get in the car.

We get to the Coleman's and get out of the car. I close the door behind me and just stare at the house. I really don't want to see Aaron, but I do want to see Emma.

I then follow my parents and walk inside. My parents go to Mr. and Mrs. Coleman and their friends while I just stand at the doorway, wishing I was home. Thank goodness Emma sees me and gives me a hug. "Come on, let's go to my room and just hangout." I nod my head and smile. Emma and I go up to her room and sit on her bed. "I love your dress!" "Thanks. I was going to wear it for homecoming, but then Aaron and I, you know. So, I decided not to go and never wore the dress." "Well, I love it. I wish you went to homecoming with us. It was a lot of fun, but not as much as it would have been with you." "I know, I just didn't want to see Aaron." "Well, Aaron didn't even go. The guys were upset, but ended up being okay with it. He really misses you." I don't say anything. I just sit there and think. I then say, "Speaking of the guys, do you still have a crush on Jacob?" "Duh. I'm starting to think he has a crush on me too." "Ooo." "And Aaron was able to invite a friend this year, so he invited Jacob." "I wonder why he didn't invite Adam?" "Adam and Hailey are hanging out tonight, because it's there first New Year's Eve as a couple. If you ask me, I think it's just an excuse for them to have sex going into the new year." "You are probably right about that." We both laugh and talk a little longer.

All of a sudden there is a knock on the door. "Hey, um, mom wants to say hi to Sadie, I mean Sarah." "You can still call me Sadie, Aaron." I say with a small smile. He smiles back and Emma and I get up. We go downstairs to the kitchen and see Mr. and Mrs. Coleman talking to my parents. "Sarah, how are you?! I feel like we haven't seen you in months!" "I know! I think the last time I saw you was October." "I wish you and Aaron were still together," Mr. Coleman says to me. "Same," Emma says. "I do too. I really love him and miss him, but we both needed space from each other." I then lean over to Emma and whisper, "Do your parents know why we are taking a break." Emma just looks at me and shakes her head "No". All of a sudden Aaron says, "You still love me?"

We all look at Aaron, and I walk up to him. "Yeah, I do, but you and I both needed a break from each other. I think your actions that night showed me." I whispered that last part. "But, I told you, I didn't kiss her back and was trying to push her off of me." "I know." "And I didn't want a break, you did." "I know. I just needed a break and thought that it would be best for both of us." "I love you. I always have and I always will. I will never forgive myself for what I did, knowing that you will probably never be mine again." "What did you do, Aaron?" Mrs. Coleman asks a little nervous. "The night the guys and I went to the party a girl kissed me and took me into a bedroom. She tried to have sex with me and I tried to push her off, but she griped my wrists to where I couldn't move them. I was going to tell Sadie right after it happened, but she found out before I could tell her. That's why we are taking a break."

Aaron then looks at me and says, "I am so sorry for everything that has happened. I still love you so much and I know you feel the same." "Aaron, I love you too. These last two months have been awful without you. There were times when I wanted to call you and hear your voice, but every time I was going to pick up the phone, everything came flooding back. I want to get back together so bad, and I know that you are really sorry for what you did." "I want to get back together too. The last few months have been hell for me. I miss you so much, but I am not going to make you rush into anything. If you still want some space I completely understand. It's going to kill me, but I understand." "I don't think I want space anymore." Aaron then cups my face and kisses me. We then hear our parents, Emma, and Jacob say, "Aww". We pull apart and look at them. They are all smiling. "Can we please be boyfriend and girlfriend again?" "Yes!" Emma says. We all look at her and she says, "Sorry. Continue." "You promise you won't hurt me again or cheat on me." "I promise. That will never happen again. Ever." "I love you, Aaron." "I love you, Sadie." We kiss again and I smile against his lips. Man, I missed him.
