Chapter 26

Mina's pov

Today is Saturday which means I don't have school! Chaeyoung had already gone home because her mom called her. I am here in the living room thinking of something to do.

I heard a knock on my door so I went and opened the door. Again, there is a box. I carried the box to the kitchen and opened it. There are foods and medicines inside.

"Who could be giving this to me?" I'm really wondering who kept on giving me this. That person is so clever that I can't even notice him or her. Whoever that person is, I am thankful.

I put the food on the fridge and grabbed one for me to eat. I went to the living room with my food and continued thinking about what should I do today when my phone suddenly rang.

"Hello?"

"Mina, it's me." I can't believe that she called so I checked my phone one more time. It definitely is my mom.

"Yeah, why?" I answered in an annoyed tone. Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to be rude but it is just like nature to me talking to her like that.

"Do you have time today?" My mom replied.

"Well, I don't have school or anything to do. Why?"

"Oh, that's great! I actually want to have dinner with you. I'll cook later." I was taken aback by her response. This is the first time she asked me that. Something I've been wanting to do with her. But at some point, I'm not that happy or excited because I already got used to that we don't have a close relationship like other families. But still, I wanted to try.

"It's fine. What time?"

"Really? Thank you! It will be at 6 pm." She sounds so happy that I again find it unusual of her.

"Right, I'll see you later." I hung up and started eating my food.

Time passed...

I'm preparing for dinner with my mom. While preparing, I can't help but think why did she become like that. Like a real mother which she hadn't been for the past years.

I was about to open my car when someone called me.

"Miss Mina!" I recognized the voice. It was my mom's secretary. I went to where he was. He was standing outside the van of my mom? Did my mom ask him to pick me up?

"What are you doing here sir?" I asked confusedly.

"Oh, your mom told me to pick you up. Please get in." I just nodded and got in the van. All of what is happening right now just doesn't make sense. Everything is just confusing. What's with the sudden change of a heart?

On the way to my mom's house, I was just in deep thoughts. When we arrived I was greeted by mom.

"You arrived safely. Thank you for bringing Mina here safely." Mom said to her secretary.

"Let's go, Mina. I prepared everything already." She smiled and held my hand then walked me to the garden.

I was stunned at how she prepared this dinner. It was really beautiful. There are flowers at the side, a carpet, a chandelier, and some fancy lights.

"I hope you liked it." She said and I smiled at her.

We sat down and we just stared at each other for some minutes. I cleared my throat to break the silence and averted my eyes to the foods she prepared. They were my favorite foods.

"Here let me serve you." She put all of the foods that I like on my plate and gave them to me.

"Thank you." I responded. She nodded and served some food for herself too.

"How are you, Mina?"

"I'm fine just a little busy with school."

"Remember when I always say to you to make sure to think of your grades first before anything else?"

"Of course, how can I forget?"

"I'm sorry..." I looked up at her and saw her looking down. The sudden apology of her surprised me.

"I'm sorry because I didn't know it will affect you, especially your health. I'm taking it back. Just do all of the things you want. What's important to me is you passed. That's enough for me." She said while looking down as she continued eating.

I don't know if I should feel happy or mad. I can't even reply to her because the events are just so unexpected to me, even her words.

We were having a peaceful dinner when her secretary came.

"Good evening ma'am, I just want to inform you that you have guests in your living room for an interview." He said that made my mom shocked. She then looked at me.

"Right, tell them to wait for me there." My mom replied. The secretary went back inside to inform the guests.

"I'm sorry Mina but this is important." She said as she started arranging herself.

"More important than having dinner with your daughter?" I spoke when she was about to leave. She turned to look at me.

"I thought this day will be special since I'll get to spend time with you. Am I wrong again?"

"Mina, you know how important these things are to me. I worked so hard to get to the place I am now." She said with an irritated voice.

"Yeah right, you worked hard that you forgot you have a daughter. I'm such a fool for thinking you will choose to stay here with me than be with your guests. I guess after all these years, I still didn't gain any importance to you." I grabbed my things and leave while wiping my tears. I thought she changed but she is still the same.

I don't have a car with me so I chose to walk to my house. When I got home, I grabbed my tennis and went to our university.

I played there alone. It is a way for me to clear my head and let out my anger.
I played and played to let out all of this anger inside me towards my mom.

After 30 minutes of playing, I stopped because I was so tired. I was gasping for air as I was just standing there. I found myself crying while standing in that empty court. I hit my chest many times because of the pain there. It hurts so much.

I let myself fall and cry. I don't care because no one was there. It's just me alone in this court.
