Chapter 35

Third pov

Another day of school has arrived. Mina and Jihyo arrived at the school together first. They sat down at the bench while waiting for their friends. Their friends arrived one by one.

Jeongyeon: "Oh, look what we have here."

Sana: "Something is certainly going on with you two."

Jihyo: "What are you saying?"

Sana: "You came to school together again."

Jihyo: "Is there a problem with that? Can't I go to school with my best friend?"

Dahyun then elbowed Sana while Sana gave her a confusing look.

Nayeon: "Why is my baby not here yet?"

Tzuyu: "There she is. You can't just notice her since she's small."

Chaeyoung walked over to her friends and greeted them.

Chaeyoung: "Wow, you guys are early."

Momo: "Yeah, and you're late, which is unusual."

Chaeyoung awkwardly looked at Mina while Mina did the same. Their friends noticed it. They knew something was wrong with the two as they rarely see the two together.

Dahyun: "Oh, I just remembered I have to fix my locker, so I have to get going. Bye guys, see you later!" Dahyun walked away while Sana followed her.

Jeongyeon: "Nayeon and I will go to since..... uhm we have a.... project yeah. See you later." Jeongyeon heads out with Nayeon.

Momo: "I'll just have my 2nd breakfast! Tzuyu, come with meeeee." Momo dragged Tzuyu away.

That left with Jihyo, Mina, and Chaeyoung. They were silent. The atmosphere was so awkward and tense at the same time.

The three of them want to break the silence, but they don't know how. Jihyo knows that Mina and Chaeyoung aren't on good terms, while Mina can't face Chaeyoung since she's scared that the younger might question her for ignoring her. On the other hand, Chaeyoung doesn't know if she would just treat them as if nothing happened.

After minutes of silence, Jihyo's phone received a text from someone. Jihyo took this opportunity to break the silence and gave the two time to talk.

Jihyo: "I have to get going. My classmate notified me that professor is looking for me."

Mina: "I'll see you at lunch." Jihyo smiled at her and walked away.

Mina looked at Chaeyoung, who seemed nervous. She had to admit that she missed the girl so much that she wanted to embrace her, but with the line she drew between them, she stopped herself.

"Mina..." Chaeyoung called.

"Hmmm?"

"Mom told me you came into our house a few weeks ago."

"Oh, yeah I did."

"I'm sorry I couldn't call or message you back. I changed my phone, and my old phone was just in my closet. Give me your phone. I'll type my number." Mina gave her phone to Chaeyoung. Chaeyoung typed her number and gave Mina's phone back.

"Thank you." Mina said to Chaeyoung.

"Mina.... can we talk later after school?"

Mina knows where this is going. She knows Chaeyoung would question her about the treatment Mina is giving her. She doesn't want to talk to Chaeyoung if that is the topic because she might confess if they will talk about it, so she made an excuse.

"I'm sorry, but I have somewhere to go later."

"It's fine, maybe some other day?"

"We'll see. I'll get going now. See you later." Mina said and lightly smiled at Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung stood there feeling so down. She wanted to fix her relationship with Mina. She wanted them to go back to the way they were.

after school...

All of them went home as soon as school ended. They decided to rest after school and just be lazy for the rest of the day.

Mina was in her room, scrolling through her phone when she received a message on their group chat.

Nayeon: "What are you guys doing?"

Tzuyu: "Nothing much."

Sana: "Watching movies."

Jihyo: "Breathing."

Momo: "Eating."

Mina: "Scrolling through social media."

Nayeon: "Okay, just asking. Bye!"

Mina was about to close her phone when she received another message.

Chaeyoung
*Mina, are you busy?

*No, I'm not doing anything. Why?

Chaeyoung
*Where are you?

*In my apartment. I went home straight after school.

Chaeyoung
*I thought you have to go somewhere after school?

Mina slapped her forehead. She forgot that she just made an excuse to Chaeyoung because she doesn't want to talk to Chaeyoung about their current state.

*The person I am meeting suddenly told me that she couldn't make it.

Chaeyoung
*Can we meet now?

*Oh, sorry, I forgot I have two more projects to finish.

Chaeyoung
*Oh, okay.

Mina felt guilty because she knew Chaeyoung was down because they were not on good terms, but she had to do it. She had to stay away from Chaeyoung to stop herself from falling deeper.

It will be painful if she falls deeper, and no one would catch her.

a week had passed...

A week had passed, yet Mina and Chaeyoung hadn't talked to each other yet.

Chaeyoung would always approach Mina and ask her if they can talk, but Mina would always make an excuse. Chaeyoung noticed this. Chaeyoung realized that Mina was just making an excuse after a few days of asking her to talk with her.

Chaeyoung had enough. She can't take it anymore. She can't take how Mina, the one she was always with, is avoiding her. That left her with no chance but to force Mina to talk to her.

Chaeyoung waited at the gate when class ended. Mina spotted her, so Mina went over to her.

"What are you doing here?" Mina asked Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung didn't answer her. She dragged Mina to a bridge nearby since it was the only place where there were no people. When they got there, Mina pulled her hand away from Chaeyoung.

"What are you doing?" Mina questioned Chaeyoung. Irritated because the younger just dragged her out of nowhere.

"Mina, let's talk."

"I have something to-"

"There you are again! Making excuses! I have been asking you for us to talk, but you always make excuses. At first, I thought probably you do have an excuse but why every time I want to talk to you, you always make an excuse? Is there even an excuse Mina?" Chaeyoung raised her voice at Mina.

"Chaeyoung, calm down please I-"

"Calm down? Do you know I can't stay still for days now because of thinking what have I done wrong for you to avoid me like this? Did I do something wrong? Did I say something that hurt you? Do you know that?!" Chaeyoung raised her voice once again that made Mina startled. She hadn't seen the girl like this before. Mina started to feel weak, her tears started to form.

Those tears that she doesn't want to show to Chaeyoung. Those tears that were caused by Chaeyoung.
