Chan smiled happily, taking in the fresh scent of Hyunjin's cologne. "How have you been?" Hyunjin asked, giggling while they took their seats.
"I could be a bit better but other than that things have been okay." Chan responded, extremely excited to finally see Hyunjin after so many years.
"You're late." Minho said, jokingly putting on a stern tone. "I am so sorry. I would've came here sooner, but Felix returned my car with literally no gas in it. I had to stop at the gas station and fill up before coming here."
"Don't listen to him. He's just trying to push your buttons." Han said, lightly shoving his boyfriend in the arm.
"Felix?" Hyunjin asked, sounding a bit disappointed.
"Y-yeah! We are still friends even after all these years." Chan said, nervously scratching his neck.
"Even after everything he's put you through?" Hyunjin asked, disappointment decorating his soft features.
"He's been my best friend for so long, Jinnie. He means a lot to me." Chan said, the air growing tense between the four men.
Hyunjin crumbled at the nickname. A nickname Chan reserved specifically for him. He forced a smile before taking a sip of his drink.
Some things never change.
"Well, Hyunjin! We haven't seen you since high school. What brings you to town?!" Han asked excitedly. Chan and Minho spared each other a glance before engaging in the conversation.
"Well I figured seeing you guys was way overdue. I missed you all so much and I just couldn't bare it anymore." Hyunjin said, shooting Chan a very knowing look.
The look was one Chan knew all too well. It was the look Hyunjin used to give him in high school back when they were dating.
Hyunjin and Chan were ex lovers. They dated for about two years in secret back in high school before Felix found out and forced them to break up.
The break up was really bad and shortly after, Hyunjin moved away for a couple years. They didn't keep contact much during that time period. He never stopped caring for Hyunjin, so seeing him after so long was really nice.
Hyunjin and Chan had lost their virginities together, fell in love, and even planned a future together. All of that was quickly put to an end when Felix had began to notice Chan's attention going to something other than him.
The blonde had began to push and pry, putting his business where it didn't belong. Chan had somehow managed to keep it controlled for two years before Felix caught Hyunjin and Chan making out in the locker room after practice.
Felix ran out of the locker room crying for some reason. Chan remembered chasing after him, leaving Hyunjin all by himself, dumbfounded.
"Why were you kissing him?!" Felix cried out that day, hitting him roughly as tears fell from his eyes.
"Y-You're a fucking faggot?!" Felix shouted at his best friend. Chan remembered how broken he looked for some reason.
Seeing his life long best friend who he was secretly in love (while being with Hyunjin) with at the time become so broken tore him to shreds.
His first instinct was to tell him no and to hide the truth in fear of losing the person he loved most, so that was exactly what he did.
"N-no! I'm not gay! I was just confused is all!" Chan reassured, watching as Felix's crying grew quiet. Chan thought Felix was crying about the fact that he was possibly gay, he never considered it was possibly because he liked him.
"Prove it to me! Get rid of him!" Felix cried out, small fists grabbing at Chan's gym shirt.
"Y-yes! I'll get rid of him" Chan quickly said with no hesitation. He hated the stuff he did for Felix. He hated how he allowed this toxic boy control his whole life.
He had always been so in love with him. That fact in itself should've been enough for him to not get involved with Hyunjin, but he loved Hyunjin at the time as well.
After that day Chan had met up with Hyunjin to break up with him. His excuse was that he wasn't ready for a relationship, but Hyunjin knew better. Hyunjin knew that he was picking Felix over him. Chan had a bad habit of doing that after all.
Hyunjin cried into Chan's shoulder that night before cutting off all ties, and mutually agreeing that it was for the best.
Hyunjin moved on from it, but he never stopped feeling the pain from it all. Not even after 6 years.
Chan on the other hand went back into the closet, only letting people like Minho and Han know of his sexuality.
He tried to come out to Felix back in college, but we all know how that went.
The blonde refused to believe such a thing. He refused to accept the possibility of his best friend being a homosexual.
Chan didn't date anybody at all after that, he would have a few meaningless hook ups here and there, but other than that Felix remained the main thing his heart focused on.
But here he was, having dinner with his ex boyfriend and two best friends. Hyunjin looked radiant. His hair was styled neatly and he wore a loose white button down shirt with black jeans. His hair was tied back with a pretty white ribbon and he looked just as good as Chan remembered.
All four men caught up with one another, talking about life and everything they've got planned for the future.
Hyunjin would spare a few special glances towards Chan's direction, making the older man remember his old days back in high school.
They talked and joked around all night, getting a bit drunk on the drinks they were having. Towards the end of the night, Minho and Han went back home, leaving Hyunjin and Chan by themselves.
"It was so nice seeing you after so long." Hyunjin smiled brightly, pulling Chan into a tight embrace.
"You as well. It's been such a long time and you look really well." The older man smiled.
"Would you like to go and get some coffee or something tomorrow?" Hyunjin asked, catching the man off guard.
"I wouldn't mind that at all actually! Just text me the time and place and I'll meet you there." Chan responded happily.
"Perfect! Well I have to get going but I'll see you tomorrow?" Hyunjin asked.
"Definitely." Chan said in response.
"Alright! Have a good night, Channie." Hyunjin nervously said, quickly scurrying off and into his car. Chan giggled, some things never change.
