Time and Fallen Leaves :: jeongcheol

a smile crept into my face when i saw how areums smiles got widened the moment our both gazes met on the way. the nurse was checking on her and was updating her charts but later on she excused herself as she told me that the guardian or i mean, seungcheol who was with areum just went out while he was talking to the other line and prolly also to buy something for areum since i know the hospitals food doesnt taste that good. i admit geez. 

"you saved me doctor han.." 

i laughed. "no baby, i did not save you. you saved yourself, you know what? you're so tough and strong." i sat on the chair beside her bed, still flushing the same smile when we both saw each other. "and im so proud of you for being brave enough to face and survived two surgeries a day."

she giggled which made my heart flutter. even though she gone matured and her facial features became more prominent, but she was still the same areum ive known when she was four years old. her smile, the sparkle in her eyes every blink she makes, the sound of her laughter and even the way she giggled.. was all the same. she just you know? gone grow up just like my sister, but they never changed. and im happy, they never grow up like i did when i was at their age. 

i asked her again how were she feeling and i checked her updated charts to know if she improved to something i did yesterday. she woke up earlier this morning, good thing that seungcheol and other doctor was awake at that hour so areum was really fine now but she still needs to stay here for awhile until her wounds or i mean the stitches the nurses did to her head would get dry. i also gave her medicines and told her not to forget taking if whenever her head was aching. 

"uncle cheollie was here already... he came back months ago." i nodded and tell her that i saw and we met each other already yesterday. she seemed like she didnt remember some happenings yesterday but its normal. "his migration contract had already ended so he's free to stay here along with me... and you."

that made me smile. "we're not together, baby."

"but you would now, at this time, right?" 

i was about to say something when we heard the door had creaked and it revealed seungcheol who're holding two brown paper bangs in his both hands prolly some foods for areum. areum called her the way other kids was calling their parents and seungcheol smiled at her like parents do, at this time, you will be mistaken as them being father and daughter. they still seemed alike plus areums surname was choi... and that brings back memories from i first thought areum was seungcheols daughter. 

its been a long long time already. a lot had happened... but im here, facing and meeting the same people who gone to be one of my important person in this world.

"breakfast, doctor yoon?" 

i shook my head. "no, im fine. i need to do my rounds already." i smiled at areum and kiss her forehead before i excused myself to her and seungcheol but seungcheol held my arm once again that made me halted from going outside. "w-what?" 

"here... i bought it for you, and i wont take a refuse." 

my eyes went down to see a starbucks coffee and he was giving it to me. i stared at it for a second before i took it from him since kahit naman hindian ko sya, he wont take a refuse so wala din akong choice. i said my thank yous to him and let out a small smile before i finally went outside to do my rounds inside this hospital as a doctor, and as a surgeon. aaron and others was already doing their rounds mostly sejeong who're giving her interns the tasked they'll be doing for the rest of the day.
