"You got it Maia?" Candice the other bartender asked her.
She nodded.
Tonight was Maia's first night as a bartender. She had no experience with liquor outside of her restaurant serving experience she had. Really she had gotten the job by chance but wanted to be independent with her own money so she jumped at the opportunity. Maia's first and only job was as a waitress. She had worked there since she was 14 and quit a year ago when she found out she was pregnant.
As of recently she had been living with her boyfriend Chris for about 5 months. Although her mother suggested against it she was sure they would last. Things weren't always the greatest but she loved him and he was the father of her son. She got pregnant when she was 16, had her son at 17 and now at 18 she was a mother of a new born and just started college this past fall.
Chris her first and only boyfriend was a dope dealer. He was three years older than her but that hadn't stopped them being together. Him being in the streets didn't bother her really either because the way she saw it what he did had nothing to do with her and she told her self as long as she stayed in her own lane things would be fine.
"You look beautiful. Can I have your number?" A young man approached the bar.
Maia was beautiful girl. She had smooth brown skin and had a short pixie cut. Not many girls could pull it off but it seemed to fit her face perfectly. She had a few tattoos. Her son's name on her wrist and her mother's name on her shoulder. Mia stood about 5'6 with a slim thick frame.
"Trey get the fuck away from tha bar unless you buyin drinks." Candice told him.
She turned to Maia.
"Biggest rule to remember. Make sure to not take no bodies shit, dont let no body grab on you and dont share yo damn tips." Candice told her.
Maia nodded.
"Girl smile dont be scared. I got you." Candice told her.
Candice was a few years older but she seemed to be a genuine person Maia thought.
"Thanks." Maia finally smiled.
"So how you end up workin here?" Candice asked.
"Money, I got a new born and I'm tired of askin my baby daddy for stuff." She told her.
"He must be a deadbeat?" She asked.
"Na we live together. I just want my own shit ya know?" She explained.
"I mean I get it but take all the help you can. Cause babbbyy lemme tell you I gotta deadbeat and he ain't shit." She said.
Candice was light skinned with a long curly weave. She was a little taller than Mia but they were about the same size.
"Na my baby dad better not." Maia laughed.
"You know what I like you. Lemme show you some shit then." Candice smiled.
Candice spent the night showing Maia around. After she showed her where to find everything, how to take orders and regulars she gave her some tips.
"This shit not for the timid. I use to be like you. You jus gotta say fuck them. Stand yo ground. Dont let them disrespect you. They do it once they will try it again. You know a red flag when you see one and always follow your intuition. Keep a taser or some mace. Long as I'm workin you straight but I cant say errybody finna be tha same." She told her as Maia nodded.
Maia followed her around for the night until it was time for her to get off.
"Thanks Candice. I preciate errything." She told her.
