They spent the next 20 minutes getting acquainted with Paige. She learnt the boys were 17, and they were Luke and Jai. Luke was the more childish one, and Jai was quieter. This might have been because he was too busy texting someone and smiling to his IPhone every time he got a text. She loved their childish style, their fuzzy animal hats and their oversized sweaters. They were talking about some embarrassing moments, starting with Beau who was telling the story of when he got daxed in front of his friend Teddy when they heard a beep outside.
“They're here!” Luke sang, excitedly. The brothers looked at each other, before Beau stood up and pulled Paige up. He whispered in her ear and she nodded, running out of the room and hiding behind the door just as the boys walked through the door.
“What were you talking about this morning?” The first boy asked excitedly. He hugged each of the boys, and sat down next to Beau.
I remember this one! Paige thought. What did they call him again? Run? Jump? Something like that...
“Yeah bro, it's like 8am, what was so important?” The other asked. He sat down next to Luke, punching him in the knee playfully as he moaned.
“Are we busy this weekend?” Jai asked, shooting a knowing look behind the door that only Paige saw.
“Yeah, we're pretty packed. Frankie's party is tonight, then we've gotta film tomorrow.” the boy sat next to Beau replied.
Film? Paige thought.
“I invited someone for the weekend, is it cool if they chill with us?” Beau asked hopefully, but mysteriously. Paige bit her lip in excitement for the answer.
“No, not again. Not one of your stupid tag alongs that fan-girl like crazy the entire time.” The one next to Luke protested. The other one nodded his head in agreement.
“I guess I'll just go home then.” Paige declared, acting hurt as she walked out from behind the door.
“Paige!” The boy next to Luke said.
“Babe!” The one next to Beau shouted. “Just couldn't stay away could you?” He added, motioning for her to look him up and down.
“Hey!” She said, waving. The one next to Beau jumped up and dived into a long, hug. The other one was right behind her.
“Skip, James.” Luke mouthed, pointing at each of the boys to help her. She smiled gratefully.
“Long time, no see.” She said, letting go of 'Skip' and moving over to the other boy to hug him kindly.
“Why did you come back?” Skip asked, smiling wide.
“Her and Beau had a 'sleepover' last night.” Luke said, winking.
“Babe, what about me?” Skip asked, winking. “Oh well, there's always tonight.” He smiled.
She never considered where she would sleep that night. She expected the couch, of course, she was the guest, but the conversation was awkward to bring up. She tried to clear the thought out of her head, she knew she was lucky to be sleeping peacefully at all. James interrupted her thoughts however, which in a way, she was grateful for.
“So, what brings you to Glenroy, anyway?” He asked.
Beau quickly answered with the same story he had told his mum. She smiled appreciatively and he nodded.
