Paige's jaw dropped to the floor, her eyes popping out of her head.

“What?” She managed to stutter. Danny nodded slowly.

“I get them whenever you see Beau.” Danny told her.

“Why didn't you tell me!?” Paige exclaimed.

“I hated thinking that I was stopping you seeing the guy you obviously love.” Danny muttered, looking down. “That's why I act the way I do when you spend so much time with him. Because the more time your at the Brooks' house, I feel like, the less time I have on this earth.”

Paige's mouth hung open wide. She had never realised before now, that somebody else could talk to her about this. Well, she had Jai, she knew she always had Jai, but somehow it wasn't enough, he didn't know what it felt like, he could only watch.

“What do they say? The messages?” Paige asked inquisitively.

“Stupid rhymes and riddles. Stuff about keeping you close or loosing you forever. I don't know, pointless stuff. But still, they terrify me.” Danny confessed. “I hate watching you leave now, I hate watching you leave to be with him.”

Paige bowed her head, looking down at her thumbs, twiddling them back and forth. Danny screeched to a stop, an inch away from the car in front. He was a generally good driver, but he had been so lost in Paige's eyes that he couldn't focus on the road.

“But, I can't see you both together, because you hate each other.”

“Paige.” Danny said, as they pulled up outside her house. He caressed her face, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear as the sun turned the sky orange whilst it set in the sky. “I don't care about him, I don't care about any of the boys. You don't understand. I would give up anything, everything to make sure you stay alive.” Paige nodded. “Ok.”

Paige tilted her head upwards slightly, moving her lips towards his. She felt a sudden longing for him, that she never expected to feel.

“Go talk to your mum.” Danny whispered, their lips so close that they brushed against each other as they spoke to each other. “I'll be here.” Paige nodded, and got out of the car, her head bowed slightly for the rejection of the kiss she was willing to have given Danny.

“Mum?” Paige asked timidly, walking through the house. The threw her handbag at the front door and kicked her shoes off. The house smelt of fresh paint, and she followed the smell through the house. She walked past the large grand piano, her fingers lingering to play the keys. She reached the third story, with still so sign of her mother but the smell of paints and charcoal and watercolour thickened in the air. Puzzled, she entered the attic through the carpeted stairs that sunk in tucked away from the rest of the house. The white door was heavy and the lock was stiff, but she jolted it open roughly to see her mother in a light she had never seen her before.

Away from the make up her mother's face was naturally beautiful, and her eyes sparkled beyond blue where as they were usually dried out by her make up. Small wrinkles formed around her eyes and where her dimples once were, and instead of pearls being hung from her neck and diamonds weighing down her earlobes she wore no jewellery, and covered her body with one of her father's old flannelette shirts and old shorts. White paint was swiped up her legs by the wall she had been painting, which was only halfway done. But her hands were covered in black charcoal, as she shaded in a sketch book Paige had never seen before. Music blared from the earphones in Andrea's ears although they were hidden by the long blonde hair, that when straight as it was naturally, covered her face.
