“Sit down.” Danny said, patting the spot in front of him on the bed.
Rolling her eyes, she sat in front of him, watching as the sun began to rise. She didn't have long before her mum came looking for her. She didn't want her mum to worry. She knew that deep down. Angela wanted the best for her.
“Would you like anything to eat, something to drink?” Danny asked, smirking.
“Shut up and get to it.” Paige spat.
“Little feistier then I last remembered.” Danny smirked. “I like that.”
“You're sick.”
“Yes I am. I'm sick of trying to help you. I'm sick of trying to make everything okay again. I'm sick of everything.”
“Don't Danny! Please, don't tell me that you didn't do it. I know you did.” She wiped a tear from her eye.
“I can fix that.” He smiled, wiping the tear from her cheek although it was already gone, referring to the movie 'Holes' which Paige, Sam and Danny must have watched 100 times together.
“Don't.” She told him, feeling vulnerable and shying away from him.
“I don't know what you want me to say, to prove to you that it isn't me.”
“I found the phone in your bedside table. And the photo, and the coffee cup. And the...”
“Alright, yeah that proves that I was texting you. That doesn't prove that I wanted to. Or that I did it because I thought it would be funny. It in no way proves I killed Sam. And as for the coffee, I don't even know how that is relevant.”
“I sprained my wrist because someone spilled coffee on the ballet stage.”
“Well that one wasn't me.” He told her. “Honestly, it wasn't.” He told her, reading her thoughts. “I would never want to harm you.”
“Physically anyway.” She muttered. And that was when he lost it.
“You think I want to do this!? Do you think I want to wake up everyday knowing the only girl I've ever loved hates me!? Why would I kill my best friend!? Answer me that! The only person who ever understood me, who ever cared about me! The only real friend I've ever had! Why would I want to loose that!? Do you think I enjoy being threatened with my life to make some stupid...” He trailed off before he finished his sentence.
“What were you going to say?” Paige asked shyly, completely stunned. She had never expected he would just break. A tear fell down his face. She went to wipe it, but he jerked away from her.
“Don't Paige.” He breathed. “Please, don't touch me. Don't act like you care. That was the only reason any of this started. I wanted to protect you. I wanted to protect myself.”
“What..” Paige began to question, but Danny cut her off.
“Don't ask any more! It doesn't matter. It will never matter. I don't have a soul, I'm not alive any more. I've killed myself in attempt to save my own life.” Danny told her. Paige was silent. She didn't know what to say. She couldn't take in all of the information.
“What? What did I say?” Danny asked.
“Nothing, just give me a second to take it all in.” She told him. He reached over for her hand and she didn't attempt to move it, so he entwined his fingers in hers. For a moment, he felt like a human once again.
She didn't know what to say. She was completely speechless. She had fully expected to go to Danny's house and either die, or fight for her life. She was confused with her decision, for what she was thinking. But she didn't ever consider changing her mind for a second.
