Unsure of what he was implying, Paige slowly nodded. She felt all eyes were staring at her, whereas in reality, nobody was watching. She lurched her back forwards enough for him to open the door, where at the same time, he wrapped him arm around her waist. She wasn't sure if it was intentional, but she could feel his sweaty palms brush past her back several times. He walked around nervously, looking for a place to go although he had no idea where all of the doors lead. Paige walked over to the changing rooms, which were unoccupied as the entire class was outside. He walked behind her, making sure to stand metres apart to avoid awkward conversation. He walked so agitated, so frustrated Paige was scared of being alone with him.
When they got into the changing room, Beau looked away from her, leaning down with his elbows resting on the sink counter.
“How is everyone getting along?” Paige asked, winking although she knew he couldn't see. He grunted angrily, to say they were doing well. “Do you think everyone's hitting it off?” He replied with the same grunt. “And you, what did you think of Emma?” She waited about a minute in silence. He didn't reply, although his breathing got heavier, and heavier. “Are you going to ask her to the dance?” She was starting to get jealous, she could see his face getting red, well, the small fraction of his face she could see was red anyway. “Are you going to ask her?” She asked, louder this time. She needed to know. “Are you?”
“I don't want her!” Beau shouted, slamming his fists on the sink counter and turning around, his face now clearly red with anger. Paige jumped back, immediately scared. His threw his hands above his head and moved them almost robotic, with no sense of which direction they were heading in. He entwined his finger behind his head and tilted his head back. “I don't want her.” He repeated, softer this time, stepping towards Paige. She knew she wouldn't be able to help herself if he got closer, but she was already pressed against the wall. There was no escape. He cupped her cheek in his large hand, his face only inches away from hers. “I want you.”
She felt her heart stop completely, no exaggeration. She had heard that phrase so many times 'when I see you, my heart stops', and she had always thought it was the stupidest phrase she had ever heard. Wouldn't that mean you'd be dead? That the man you loved was a criminal? But she, truly felt as if in that moment, the world around her stopped, and she was floating up to heaven.
“What?” She managed to gasp out.
“Please, go to this formal thing with me?” Beau asked, dropping his hand from her face.
“Ok...” She was unsure. “As friends.” She asked, although to Beau it was more of a statement. He felt as if he had blown his chance with her, as if he truly had no chance.
“Yeah sure, as friends.” He told her.
They walked out together, joking about what he had to wear, colour coding’s, ect, and when they finally got outside, the girls had left.
“They told us to tell you bye, but they had tutoring.” Skip said. She nodded, she knew she was late for her tutoring class as well but she didn't care, she was too happy about everything right now, about still haven't a slight chance with Beau, about seeing the boys again. About Beau not hating her, even though she hated herself for paining her way through imagining a relationship that would never happen. He liked somebody else, she was just a rebound girl. But she was so high, on love that nothing make sense.
