Kim Seok Jin.
He's always told himself he needed to be grateful for the things he had, it was his way of coping, his way of telling himself the pain of feeling unloved was nothing compared to the things other people had to face.
His days of being 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 years old were spent in a small house of him, his alcoholic dad and workaholic mother who thought she needed to wear make-up and dress fancy every time she left the house.
See his dad worked for a news company but he had a small job that didn't pay much while his mother was a model –not a well known one– her pay wasn't always enough.
Seokjin's dad would spend his week day mornings at the news company and then come back and drink his night away, that's why the attention he gave to his son was little to nothing, and when Seokjin got attention it was always a "fuck off" or a "go do your homework".
School was a place he had to take himself from the age of 8, his mother usually felt tired when she came home or she would just totally ignore him when he came to tell her about his day at school, or tell her anything.
Seokjin's food at home was similar to the attention he got from his father, it was little to nothing, it wasn't always that they didn't have money but his mother didn't cook she just ate fast food and sometimes she didn't bring any for Seokjin.
Same with his dad he would eat at work and drink at home, luckily for Seokjin his mother would sometimes leave him ₩5,000, she did it more often than not, so majority of the time he would use the money for something to eat.
The rent and other bills that needed to be paid was always something Seokjin heard his parents arguing about, the words they used being violent and ones that Seokjin had never heard before yet judging by the way they used it he grew to understand that it wasn't words he should be using.
When his parents finally got a divorce when he was 14 he and his mother moved out of the old house and into a 2 bedroom apartment by then his mother's popularity had risen and so had her pay.
Though the next 15th and 16th years of Seokjin's life was a little better than the first 14 years of his life, his mother had begun giving him ₩20,000 a week but the way she interacted with him was the same, she would brush him off when he came to speak to her about anything or would show how uninterested she was.
And despite the fact that Seokjin felt like an outcast at school because everyone except him had friends he always reminded himself to be grateful because not everyone had a roof over their head.
However when Seokjin turned 17 he got a job, even there the people didn't interact with him much, but he didn't mind he was used to it.
But with turning 17 Seokjin found that he feeling more and more upset and when he got really upset or things got hard he would take a taxi down to a place he'd found while scouting for jobs.
It was an abandoned building that h would chill on and watch the city.
His mother stopped giving him money the moment he got his first paycheck and Seokjin didn't question it.
He worked and continue to study hard so he could have a stable job when he was 20 and wouldn't turn out like his parent.
And when he had saved up enough he bought a phone and began using it and eventually got lost in the world of love.
That was when Seokjin realized that the things he had seen going on between his parents wasn't love.
The way his mother treated him wasn't because of love.
