Nezu and Mitsu had decided to slightly alter the Big Three's final exam. They would go in order of Hado Nejire, Togata Mirio, and finally Amajiki Tamaki.
The staff had unanimously agreed that they think each student is a fully capable hero, and will do very well as pros once they graduate, but they were worried about Amajiki Tamaki's confidence.
FatGum had let Nezu know that Tamaki's low self-esteem occasionally holds him back during his work studies, so the school wanted to test him by making his final seem like it has a lot more on the line than just a passing grade.
Nezu is fully aware that none of the students would be able to beat Mitsu in a one-on-one fight. Their final was more to see how they'd work around the problem at hand and see how they'll overcome an impossibly high wall.
The plan was for Mitsu to keep Hado and Togata as hostages after their fights, and act as a villain and threaten Tamaki with harming them to test his reaction. The school needs to be able to see that as unconfident and scared that Amajiki Tamaki naturally is, that he'll be able to step up and overcome his mental block. To prove that even with his shaky self confidence, that he can overcome his own weaknesses and be the best hero he can possibly be.
So, it was only to Tamaki's shock that his test starts off with him walking into the gym and seeing a brutally beat up Nejire and Lemillion. He heart drops and he chokes on his spit, why are they so beat up and damaged?! This is a practical final!! What the hell is going on?!
"S-Suneat..." The injured blonde groans out, but slumps onto the ground before he can finish. Nejire isn't in any better shape. Her eyes were half-lidded and unfocused as she had a steady trickle of blood flowing down her head.
The timid third year hears ominous giggles coming from behind a building, "Oh poor Suneater. His friends are bleeding and bruised, the heroes that are stronger than him couldn't defeat the villain, so how could he?"
Mitsu emerges from the shadows, her wings nowhere to be seen, only the crimson metallic shine showing from her forearms. Fluffy white feathers were scattered throughout the area.
"Ami-nee... w-what's going o-on?..." Tamaki stutters.
Without answering, Mitsu charges at Tamaki, not giving him a single moment to prepare. The bluenette shrieks and only has time to turn his hands into clams to block the incoming blow.
He's hit with so much force that he flies through the wall of the current building and destroys the surface of the next one.
Tamaki slumps to the floor in pain, only looking up when he hears the clatter of footsteps walking through gravel. His eyes shoot wide open at the sight in front of him.
Mitsu is dragging Nejire and Lemillion by their hair, both of them only able to groan as their beaten bodies are dragged through rubble and debris.
She unceremoniously drops the two bodies in front of Tamaki and grips his chin, leaning forward so their noses are almost touching and her face breaks into a maniacal grin, "After I'm done with you, I'll make sure to keep you barely conscious. I'll tear them apart, bit by bit right before your very eyes. I WANT you to watch them suffer. I WANT you to see that because of your failure to capture me, that your closest friends will be tortured to death!"
Tamaki was near tears at this point. His entire body was trembling, if Nejire and Mirio couldn't beat her, how the hell am I supposed to?!?!
At this point he was hyperventilating, his focus tunneling, and his mental going down the drain. I can't do this! There are probably so many villains in the world I can't beat. What's the point in trying to be a hero if I'm going to be useless anyways?!
