Chapter 28

Summer's POV (Kane's Mate) (WHILE HOPE IS STILL CAPTURED)

I've been travelling for what seems like weeks but it's only really been about a week, finally my driver has informed me that we are approaching Mountain Ridge Pack boarders and I'm starting to feel sick but I'm not sure if it's morning sickness or nerves. Before I can figure out which we come to a sudden stop "Sorry Miss it appears we have a few problems in front of us." my driver says, my eyes travel to the front and I can see three wolves and two men standing in front of us.

"No problem at all this was expected, I'll handle it." I say as I put my hand on the handle to open the door "Umm Miss Summer I'm not sure that's a good idea in your condition." one of the guards with me says nervously, I sigh and explain "I am less of a threat than you or any of the others accompanying us." he looks at my face before giving me a curt nod, I take a deep breath and open the door.

As I step out one of the men approaches slowly and sniffs deeply taking in my scent, no doubt he has picked up Kane's scent since he marked me our scent's mingle together so that other wolves can identify who we each belong to. He gives me a confused look as he tilts his head to the side, I give him a small smile "Hello my name is Summer and I'm from the Midnight Moon Pack, I am also the newly found mate of your Alpha's brother Kane..." I stop to take a breath and to look at everyone there. I notice no one is acting aggressive or threatening so I continue "Kane sent me here to stay with your Alpha while he is on a mission for my father the Alpha of Midnight Moon Pack." I finish and wait with baited breath for their response.

"Please take a seat back in the car I have just asked our Beta to inform the Alpha of what you said but it will take him a few moments to get here and it's about to rain." the man that sniffed me first said politely, to which I gave a gentle nod and to show I didn't want to cause any trouble or disrespect I turned and climbed back into the car to wait for the Alpha. True to the mans words it started to rain lightly, I took a few breaths to prepare to met Alpha Hunter I didn't know Alpha Eric had stepped down and the former Beta was now the Alpha. From stories I've heard Hunter is a very hard man who doesn't trust easily and can be as cold hearted as the north pole, and after hearing how he challenged the former Beta and won quite easily I'm not surprised about the other rumors.

Alpha Hunter's POV

It's been about five weeks since Kane went off and I haven't heard anything from him since week two but I'm not too worried I know my brother I trained him, he can look after himself. It's been a week since the rouge came to deliver Gregory's message and I still couldn't wrap my head around the phone call with Alpha Arrow, it was true and Gregory had got to her and now it might be too late to do anything to stop the war that's coming.

I'm so lost in thought that when someone knocks on my office door I nearly fall out of my chair, "Come in" I say while straightening myself up. My Beta walks in with a worried look on his face, "What's up?" I ask with raised eyebrow's, he rubs the back of his neck and says "Some warriors found a woman and some warriors from another pack about to cross our boarder, she um. She said Kane sent her because she is his mate and carrying his child." he finishes on a rushed breath. I look at him surprised by what he said but definitely interested to find out what was going on.

I arrive at my packs boarder with my Beta and Gamma close behind, I come across three of my warriors in wolf form and two others in human form. One of which is my head warrior, he turns to me as I approach and I ask "So what's going on?" "Well she defiantly smells like Kane and her mark is clear... But you have the best nose and also you know Kane's scent better than us." he answer's pointing towards one of the cars I'm assuming the one with Kane's supposed mate in.

Just as I turn to the car the door opens and out steps a pretty young lady with a soft smile on her face directed at me, her scent hit me hard there is no question that Kane's scent is mingled with hers but there's a third scent that's both their scent's and a little extra. That's when it dawns on me she is pregnant and if my nose is correct which it normally is Kane is in fact the father, as the realisation hits me I give her the biggest most genuine smile I can which she returns before heading towards me.

When she is finally stood in front of me she extends her hand and says "Alpha Hunter I am Summer Midnight from the Midnight Moon Pack and also the mate of your brother." I look down at her hand and chuckle while shaking my head which earns me a very confused look from Summer.

That's when I grab her and give her a huge bear hug, as I do the doors of both cars fly open and a dozen men jump out and growl at me earning them a growl from my pack warriors, "Stand down boys." I say as I gently place Summer back on her feet. She giggles as she turns to her own men "Really guys, really, come on it was a freaking hug." she says while shaking her head and giggling like me.

My men stand down instantly and hers look down embarrassed as one says "Sorry Miss Summer he just moved to quick we weren't sure if it was threatening.", she chuckles again before saying "You lot back in the car I'll be there in a minute." "No get in with them." I say a bit sternly and she looks at me confused, I chuckle again as I say "You're pregnant with my niece or nephew please get back in the car and I will lead you to the pack house.". Understanding blooms on her face as she blushes a little embarrassed "Thank you." she responds softly before getting back into the car as I shift into my wolf and head back to the pack house.

When we get to the pack house Summer and the warrior who had spoken follow me to my office to discuss what was happening with Kane, the rest of the warriors are shown to the kitchen for refreshments while they wait. "So I guess we should start with why you're here without my brother and pregnant, please don't tell me he ran out on you when you told him about the baby." I said while running my hands through my hair, I don't know why I thought so low of my brother sometimes.

She giggled "No nothing like that in fact when we found out about the baby he was fantastic." she said happily, I sighed and chuckled as I said "Sorry for thinking the worst.", she smiles "It's fine anyway my father asked for Kane to help out with some pack business and he would only agree if I came to you and stayed under your protection until he returns." she explained. "What are the problems your father is having? Maybe I can help out?" I asked a little concerned.

She shrugs her shoulders before saying "Father never tells me when there were problems so I'm not sure but honestly my father would never do anything to hurt me so I know Kane is safe and well, I can also feel it through our bond everything is going as planned. Do you really think I would risk coming here with so many of my packs warriors if my father intended to hurt my mate and father to his grandchild?" she questioned with a raised eyebrow.

Summer was good I'll give her that, although I had a small doubt that everything she said was true but I trusted when she said that Kane was ok and she could feel it through the bond. If Kane were hurt or worse dead she would be in pain or a complete wreck and she is neither so I'm fairly confident he is alive and well. After she filled me in on what she knew I someone to take her to Kane's room while my house keepers showed her warriors to their rooms for the night, they would all be leaving tomorrow and heading back to their own pack and only leaving the warrior that came to my office who I now know is Logan. She asked them all to leave as a show of faith that she won't need them because I will do what my brother asked of me.

"So you believe her then?" my Beta asked sitting down opposite me "I do actually yeah, you?" I ask with a raised eyebrow, "I think so man, I mean come on it's clear her scent has fully mingled with his and did you see her mark... I mean I know there are loads of people with them initials but it does fit." he says nodding his head. I take a deep breath and look out of the office window sending a silent prayer to my brother and the Moon Goddess "Please come back soon brother your kid needs you.... Moon Goddess please keep him safe and bring him home soon.".

Summer's POV

I get to Kane's room and as soon as I'm alone I go straight to his bed pick up his pillow and sniff deeper then I've ever sniffed before, I take in a lung full of his delicious scent and let out the breath I didn't know I'd been holding in. Everything was going to plan so far and if the Moon Goddess is correct I will be seeing him soon and that thought alone was the only thing keeping me going, I didn't realise how tired I was until I sat on Kane's bed and as soon as his scent enveloped me I laid down and it didn't take long for me to fall into a deep sleep with wonderful dreams of my Kane's return.
