Chapter 34

Hope's POV (BACK TO PRESENT TIME)

I wake up just before sunrise actually feeling refreshed, I feel like something big is going to happen today and I can feel Selene is a little off as well. She is being a lot more quite then usual, when I ask her something she give's me an answer with few words and it's getting on my nerves. I see Edward sleeping near the fire so Kane must be on watch, I get some wood and go and sort the fire out and prepare some breakfast for us. Edward stirs a little but doesn't wake up "Selene will you quit with the pacing, you're giving me a d**n headache." I snap at her sick of the back and forth.

I feel her huff as she disappears into the back on my mind, Kane comes through the trees and spots Edward still asleep. He looks at me with a nod before sitting in front of the fire, I look at him and link "Everything clear?" he gives a nod "Are we packed and ready to go?" I link "Yeah we didn't unpack much and Edward repacked what we did on his watch." he explains. This time I give him a nod as Edward stirs again this time waking up fully, he sits up and stretches "You look better." he states looking at me.

I roll my eyes "Well you haven't exactly been looking or smelling your best." I finish pinching my nose for affect, Kane sniggers while Edward just rolls his eyes at me. I dish up our breakfast and as we start eating I have to ask "So what's the plan for when we get to your pack?" I look over to Kane, he looks up "We go and meet Hunter." he shrugs. Edward clearly looks uncomfortable "What's the Problem?" I link him with an eyebrow raised, his eyes dart to mine for a second before he looks away "I'm not too comfortable going into an unknown pack especially with you." he links back honestly.

I look at Kane and ask pointedly "Are we going to have any issues you know me or Edward?" I make it sound like my concern. Kane regards me for a second cocking his head to the side "No Princess, why would there be?" he replies clearly shocked by my question, I look him straight in the eye "I haven't known either of you long enough to fully trust you, how can I be sure your brother won't do to me what Gregory did?" I ask him honestly, Edward is not the only one worried. Kane looks at me with genuine hurt on his face and I feel bad, but I am telling him the truth, trust is something I will not give freely.

Niether Kane nor Edward have done anything to me for me not to trust them, but people can act and lie. This could all be an act to get me back to his pack so his Alpha brother can force me like Gregory was going to, and what's to say Edward wasn't sent to help. If being locked up for years taught me anything it was to always expect the unexpected and never get too comfortable, focus is the key to survival in all situations. I take a breath "Kane I don't mean to sound ungrateful, you have done more than anyone for me. But a part of me will always be suspicious that's what happens, you know being in a cell for years does that to a person.".

Kane's look goes from hurt to understanding "No I completely understand, I guess I'm going to feel more comfortable around you than you are me...." he finishes with a smirk before adding "You terrify me, so I guess as long as you don't hurt me I'm ok with you not trusting me yet." I give him my own smirk in response I hope his right. Edward clears his throat "So what's the plan then?" he asks looking at Kane "We leave as soon as you're ready, we run on our own and when we get there Princess you need to be in human form I don't want anyone seeing Selene yet. Gregory still seems to think you're with his Beta, the longer we can keep it that way the better." Kane explains finishing with a sigh.

I feel Selene huff in my mind "What's wrong?" I question her, I feel her huff again "I can't not shift for who knows how long you need to tell Kane we will not be forced to not shift." she says angrily, I look to Kane "That's going to be a problem, I can't just not shift Kane Selene will end up feral. I will need to shift at least...." I pause and ask Selene "How often Sel?" "Hmm I like the nick name." she starts "Not now" I get her back to the point "Oh, um at least five times a week." she finishes "Five times a week." I say to Kane.

He rubs the back of his neck "I'll have to speak with Hunter and see if he can find somewhere for you to shift and run, where no one will see you." he mumbles more to himself. "Ok give me five minutes to splash my face and eat and we can make a move." Edward says changing the subject I give him a nod as does Kane, we each grab breakfast and eat in silence.

Edward rushed his food and went off to the stream to try and freshen up as much as you can without soap or a shower, by the time he comes back me and Kane have finished packing and cleaned up so no one knows we were here just in case Gregory is following us. We are both in wolf form waiting when he returns, he packs his clothes and shifts picking up his pack as we head off in a fast run for them but a brisk walk for me.
