You never really got around to that final match. You were more concerned with other things.
Something was happening. It wasn't obvious, but when you learn a person's 'tells', it's too noticeable to ignore.
It was clear in the way you repeatedly entered the empty bedroom of the house, reorganizing it over and over. You were purchasing more things than normal. Things like decorations. You seemed to be preparing or planning for something/ someone. Japan's heroes weren't sure what, but it was something important. Some tried to ask, but you dodged their questions like the plague. It further reinforced the skeptics: you were hiding something, and it was big enough to endanger them.
"I can feel it. I know she's hiding something. She was talking to Maya, all cryptic and stuff."
Uraraka and Iida were in the kitchen, conversing about their suspicions.
"It's too obvious. Ominous phone calls, frequent outings, disappearing at night, the constant hiding. She's doing something, and it's gonna hurt us later."
"Todoroki was right," Iida said. "We should have remained on our own."
"Aren't we supposed to be looking for this Jang guy anyhow? He's supposed to be helping us. It's like everyone is forgetting that we're fugitives."
"We must be prepared for anything. No matter the costs."
...
"Mama!" Kya called out.
You stopped mid-kick, turning to Kya's little figure in the doorway of the basement. She looked happy enough, but you felt trepidation in her heart. She was nervous. You ambled towards her, arms opening up for a hug.
"Hello princess. What's up?"
You picked her up as she chattered, walking to the kitchen. You nodded along as she talked about what she did with Aria today.
She was so excited for Aria to become part of their family. When you told her, she was ecstatic. She was speeding through every thought and feeling of happiness. She imagined the sleepovers and the games they'd play. She was so excited that it turned into impatience. She complained repeatedly about how long the process was. She already started calling Aria her sister. She bragged to her friends at school, to the sidekicks at work, and to anyone else who would listen. Your heart kept swelling with love at the pride in Kya's heart. She already loved and adored her new sister.
You were excited too. But in the back of your mind, you warned yourself not to get too happy. There was a chance that Aria's family will come back to find her, or even CPS might believe that you were not responsible enough to have another child.
They were already reluctant about you having Kya and Oliver. It mostly involved your occupation, especially as the number one hero. The unreliability of the job and the fact that you were single made the process much longer than necessary. So, the majority of the wait was observations with your interaction with Aria, the children and Aria together, and you with all three of them. Once that was done, you would be in the official custody of Aria.
You set her down, pouring yourself and Kya a drink, while she continued to talk about her day. You paused when she did, and you knew that the real conversation was about to happen.
"Kya, what's wrong?"
"Nothing mama. What are you talking about?" she mumbled nervously. Her hands wrung in nervous motions.
You raised an unimpressed brow. "You know I can tell when you're lying right?"
She gasped. "You can?!"
