Hey...
Aria peeked into the dark room, jumping when the door smacked into the wall. She glanced back into the hall, vaguely hearing Kya count.
The kids were playing hide and seek, and Aria struggled to find a good hiding space. She tried under the center table, in the pantry, and the laundry room. But she was always found. She was determined to be the last one standing this time, and so she searched for a hiding spot.
She never bothered to go upstairs, mostly because Kya and Oliver's rooms were on the ground floor. She'd taken to Kya's space more than her new room, content to share a bed.
Since she didn't seem curious to explore the home, you let it be, thinking she wouldn't venture up there.
You were wrong.
Incidentally, the one time you left them alone was when everything went wrong.
She crept into the room, stepping on her tiptoes. It was dark, the curtains drawn and the room deathly quiet. The only light came from the hallway.
And that's when she saw it. Movement near another door. It was as if someone was there.
Aria's heart jumped, and she glanced around frantically.
Monsters aren't real. Even if they are, they don't like eating kids. They only scare them to fill the scare meters.
Unfortunately, this game had commenced after watching Monsters Inc., and while it did have a good ending, it still caused an adrenaline rush in her easily scared heart.
More movement and she knew she wasn't mistaken. There was a monster in the room.
They were soon revealed when they partially stepped into the light of the hallway.
Part of their face was shielded by darkness, and it added to the terrifying figure. They were big and bulky, with broad shoulders and large arms. Hair sprouted over their shoulders, almost like Sully. Their back seemed to be hunched as if hiding from her. Piercing red eyes glow in the dim light.
She hoped they hadn't noticed her, but she bumped into the dresser and knocked down a pen. It brought the attention of the scary figure to her.
Another head turned, with similar features in the dark. The other one was smaller, yet still imposing. Glowing yellow eyes light through the darkness.
She squeaked and stood still. She remembered that most animals wouldn't bother you if you didn't move. She hoped it worked for monsters too.
Then, they smiled, revealing sharp teeth. They glinted in the light of the hallway, accentuating the sharp points.
That was her last straw.
A scared squeal escapes her before she's dashing through the house in search of somewhere safe.
"Wait!" the monster shouted, stumbling after her.
A monster. A giant, scary, hairy, sharp-toothed monster was in the house. Then there was another thing with glowing eyes, but her main focus had been on the scarily tall stature of the red man.
She kept running until she bumped into solid legs. She glanced up into glaring red eyes. She couldn't help but scream, and she twirled around as she was soon surrounded.
"Fuck!" the blond one cursed.
Finally, she passed out, vaguely hearing her mother's voice.
...
"What happened?!" you shouted, scrambling into the living room. On the middle of the floor, was Aria, dried tear tracks on her face, and sweat pooling on her little brows.
