Thoughts I Had Today

I'll hold on, a little longer. Till one day, you too, won't need me anymore‬.

You looked back at me.
With those big round eyes,
filled with innocence.

I could see your pure heart in them.
You smiled and giggled,
with your gremlin laugh.

It made me stop and think,
how you'd grow up
with only two brothers by your side,
if I had left that night.

‪It made me think, 
how someday you might go through,
what I went through.

‪The thought of it pains me.
I want to protect you,
from the terrible things
this world will offer you.

I may not be,
the best role model or guide.
But I want to be by your side.

So... I'll hold on,
a little longer.
Till one day, you too.
Won't need me anymore‬.
