Taught Me To Be Free

Love is the pain that broke me apart

That tore me down and showed me what it was to be alive

I have found a new place a new sanctuary within me

You set me free the moment you said you saw me

Emotions are draining away from me with every tear I wipe away

I will be hollow no more through the words you taught me to believe in

I dance in the rain let the wind sweep me away 

I have become truly myself without the walls to protect me

Through you I have gained the strength I need to know when to lie down in defeat

I cannot believe in the words I wrote before I took pen to paper to tell you I am stronger now

So you can stand back and watch me fall 

I still see you there my past come to my present showing me my future 

You woke me up from the bad dreams I had lived my life in

When you say you have no need for me anymore 

I see the lies in your eyes I hear the pain in your voice

I dropped the mask I wore and let you in

I drowned myself in the water I was too afraid to step in

My heart was in my hands my soul within my eyes 

I have given them away not knowing if they will be kept safe

Not caring for their protection within your being 

I gave away myself I have no way of being anything but who I am now

I am broken without bleeding

Torn apart yet my voice does not make the sound of screams

I want to hide myself away with you or stand tall without your shadow behind me

I wish to remember what it was that brought me to this moment

The worst is over now let yourself fly let yourself be free I hear whispered to me 

I have no understanding of what the voices mean

I wish not to comprehend more pain and torture. 

I want only to breathe in and breathe out

Feel my heart beat the rhythm it creates within my chest
