You were gone for so long and I learnt to move on
I went through each day watching the world go by
My heart lay where you had let it fall
We both knew it had to end but never knew the pain it would bring
The letters you wrote to me lie in bundles beneath my pillow
The pages are worn at the corners as I have read them every night you have been gone
I lie here staring at the stars shining through the glass
You my love are gone but your words tell me so much and more
I remember the secret walks in the rain
The ring of flowers you placed on my head as I danced
We vowed we would find ourselves like Romeo and Juliet
Our palms would touch once more as our lips caressed one another
So here I lie as I count the hours down till the 'morrow
Will you be there at the path when the sun rises as you whispered to me so long ago
I shall stand at the gate and smile for the dream to come true
and then walk to the stone where you lie
For the power of our love is deeper and stronger than death itself
You will be at the gate when I return for each morning you are there
and then the light of day takes you away from me.
