One fateful night he saw the light come forth
The flames they did so burn through the darkness
Come forth he called out to the night and she came into sight
The maid that haunted his dreams and waking hour
She called out his name and urged his forth for the crowds they did approach
He was the dark to her light and doomed they stood together
The crowds they called and yelled for the man who hid his name
He was the one they learned to fear for he did not smile or tell his tale
The maid stood firm her hand in his as they felt the heat from the flames
The noise of those who failed to understand filled the air
How could the maid love the man who hid away
The one who they saw as monster over man
Ignorance and fear of the unknown hindered and withheld their friendship
Circling the couple who stood firm in their love they closed in
It was the heat and the bright light of the flames that made them kiss under the moon light
A soft gentle kiss as they knew in their entwined hearts that this was the end
Their love and need for one another on this mortal realm was at an end
A silence fell and as if in sympathy for the lovers the night sky went dark
The moon dipped her head in sorrow as the flames took flight
A song left the maid's lips as she held her love close to her
Two souls, one heart interwoven in their simple pure love for one another
Took flight and left to join the stars that night and Diana welcomed her new subjects with open arms
A love like no other a maid and a man who knew nothing but her tender touch
Gone but together content in the love that stood so firm
A beauty in it's simplest form.
