Can

I see Sanem coming towards my office with a firm step and a serious expression that does not bode well.
She enters through the door without knocking while she stares at me almost with hostility and at that point, before Fabri and Deren can notice her and her belligerent gait, I get up on my feet and go towards her, putting myself between her and the others.
I put my hands on her arms and pretend to kiss her on the cheek while in reality I'm whispering in her ear.
"Play our game or we risk losing Mr Fabri's campaign, we'll explain later".
I don't give her time to react but tenderly take her hand to go back to Deren and Fabri together.
"Ashkım, love come, I was just reassuring Mr. Fabri that yesterday we had a little lovers' quarrel, that's why we left the party, but now everything is cleared up right dear?".
I squeeze her hand a little harder in mine to make her understand that she has to go along with me, she turns to me with her eyes wide open, clearly confused.
Fortunately Deren helps me to make her understand the situation, laughing she says.
"Of course, Mr Fabri understood perfectly why you left the party like that. We explained to him that you are engaged and you had a little disagreement you had to clarify."
As she says this she walks around the desk taking herself behind Fabri's back to start making strange grimaces and gestures again, at Sanem's address this time, to make her understand that she has to call our bluff.
Mr Fabri intervenes, smiling.
"But of course I understand the situation very well. Ah l'aumour l'aumour qu'est-ce que l'amour".
Sanem seems really interdicted, she shifts her gaze from Deren to me and then to Fabri still unable to understand what is happening. I put my arm on her shoulders and smiling I hold her close whispering softly "We'll explain later".
At that moment my brother enters my office and seems to understand the situation at once.
"Mr Fabri, good morning, it's good that you came by.
Could you follow me into my office for a moment? I would like to show you some campaign finance documents that would need your approval."
Fabri nods and gets up to follow him, and as soon as they walk through the connecting door between my and Emre's offices, Deren hurries over to Sanem a little too aggressively for my liking.
"Sanem, be very careful not to spoil everything please.
Shut up, smile and try to look like the most loving woman on earth. Yesterday, after you left suddenly, in order to save the situation we had to tell Mr Fabri that you and Can are engaged and had an argument."
Sanem suddenly turns her gaze on me in disbelief as much as I am realizing that today is the second time that I find myself engaged to her because of my careless decision to drag her away from that damn party.
Sudden decisions that can have completely unexpected consequences, it seems.
But slowly I see her astonished look change into a tense, almost furious expression, while I hear her ask in a sharp tone.
"Can bay, could I have a word with you please?"
It's Deren who replies abruptly .
"There's nothing to talk about Sanem, just don't make any more trouble.... ".
I'm annoyed by his brusque way of addressing my... I mean addressing Sanem, I really need to talk to Deren about it.
I'm about to respond to her request to tell her that there's no problem when Fabri enters my office escorted by Emre.
"So Mr Divit, since we didn't get a chance to talk much yesterday, I would like you to be my guests tonight for dinner at Rakofoli".
That's all we needed, I think to myself as I am forced to decline the invitation.
"I'm sorry Mr. Fabri, unfortunately tonight is not possible".
I hear Sanem, who has hardly opened her mouth since she arrived, retort in a sarcastic tone.
"Of course, tonight is not possible, Can is busy!"
I turn to look at her surprised and intrigued by the strange tone of her reply, but it's Fabri speaking again.
"So Thursday night then?"
Damn! I find myself having to decline her invitation again.
"Thursday evening unfortunately Sanem and I have a previous engagement, I'm sorry. How about we change it to Saturday? Would that work for you?"
Once again I hear Sanem muttering almost to herself.
"Yeah, an engagement... right."
I turn to look at her intrigued by her angry expression and all this muttering between her teeth, but Fabri claims my attention again.
"Tamam, there's no problem."
He walks over to me, offering me his hand.
"See you on Saturday then, I'll be waiting, take care."
He shakes my hand and after a quick nod towards Sanem he leaves my office escorted by Deren and Emre.

Sanem is standing there, arms folded, looking almost as if she's about to explode. I tilt my head as I look at her, I can't really explain why she would be angry with me.

"Sanem? What's going on?"

She gives me a look that I would call furious at this point.

"You ask me what's going on Can bay? I'll tell you what's going on..."

A shrill voice from the hallway interrupts whatever she was about to tell me.

"Caaaaan?"

I turn incredulously towards the door.

What on earth is SHE doing here?

"Huma?"
