Sam was the first one to come up to Jack after John Hart went back through the Rift and time reversed, she was limping and leaning heavily on her cane.
"Hey Jacksie," she murmured softly, "you okay, son?"
Jack nodded, but said nothing.
Of course, he was lying. The reminder of leaving Gray behind plus watching Sam struggling with her injured knee was just making him feel more guilty about abandoning his team.
"Are you sure?" Sam pressed gently, emerald green eyes searching his face, "you know you can always talk to me, sweetheart."
"Just stop, Sam," Jack growled, his tone a little harsher than he'd meant it to be, "leave me alone, okay?"
"I will not!" Sam snapped, "I told you since day one that pushing me away won't work, now what's bothering you?"
"What's going on here?" Tosh asked, looking concerned as she, Gwen, Owen, and Ianto joined them.
"Nothing." Sam and Jack responded at the same time, and in the exact same tone.
"Oh that is just disturbing," Owen muttered, "to be honest didn't really believe you at first, Gwen. But you were right, those two really are the same."
"Gwen, what's he talking about?" Jack demanded. Gwen shot an apologetic glance at Sam, who rolled her eyes while trying to squash a smile.
"Well, umm," Gwen murmured uncertainly, "while you were away, Jack, we all couldn't help but notice how much alike you and Sam are. I know you share DNA, but there's so much more to it than that. You talk the same way, smile the same way, move the same way, you even have the same habits."
Jack glanced over his shoulder at Sam, who raised an eyebrow at him.
"What, are you waiting for me to disagree?" She asked, "because she's not wrong. We kinda have the same type too, if you catch my drift." She winked at Ianto, who blushed and covered his face with one hand.
"Shut up, Sam." He mumbled.
"Listen, I'm sorry I snapped at you," Sam went on, stepping closer to Jack and taking his hands in her free hand so she could stroke his knuckles with her thumb, "I'm just... I was worried about you. We all were."
Jack glanced at Gwen, Tosh, Owen, and Ianto. Gwen and lanto were nodding, Tosh was smiling sadly, and even though Owen was looking away and rolling his eyes, Jack could tell that was his way of agreeing.
"It's okay if you're not ready to talk about what happened to you yet," Sam said, and Jack looked back at her as she moved her hand to his cheek, "you don't have to. But whenever you're ready, we'll be here for you."
"Promise?" Jack croaked, realizing he was crying.
Sam nodded seriously, her own eyes brimming with tears.
"I promise."
