Can We Dance?

Jay was standing a few feet away from the bar, listening to Owen and Tosh's conversation but staring down at the indigo dress he was wearing in dismay. It was supposed to be the dress he wore to special occasions, but this occasion didn't feel so special anymore. Sure, he was happy for Gwen and Rhys, but he was angry with Sam. She could've been killed and whenever he'd tried to talk to her about it she'd just run off again. As if he'd summoned her just by thinking of her, Jay felt a light tap on his shoulder and turned to see Sam standing behind him with a grin on her face.
"May I have this dance, sugar?" She asked, winking and offering her hand.
Jay scoffed and rolled his eyes, but curled his fingers around hers anyway. Sam sighed contentedly as they swayed together to the music.
"I dunno about you," she murmured, "but I am having so much fun."
"You should also know that you're very close to getting my knee in your pelvis." Jay growled.
"Ooooh, I'm scared." Sam laughed sarcastically, emerald eyes twinkling.
"I'm serious, Sam!" Jay snapped, "I know how important Torchwood is to you, but you could've gotten yourself killed today!"
"But I didn't get killed, therefore you can stop grinding up my knuckles like that."
"Sam, whatever it is you're planning, it won't work."
"What makes you think I'm planning something?"
"That stupid grin on your face. You only look like that when you're up to something."
Sam laughed affectionately, "Jay, dearest, just enjoy the wedding! Look at the dancing couples around you, let the music move through you and wash all your troubles away."
Jay bit his lip and wrinkled his nose.
"You're stupid." He said.
"I know," Sam replied flatly, "and hey, maybe my little plan won't work," she spun him around and leaned him back in a dip, "but then again, maybe it already has." She nodded across the room and Jay tilted his head back a bit further so he could see what she was looking at.
Only a few feet away, Jack and Ianto were dancing together, slowly, almost timidly, but holding each other so close you'd think someone was trying to tear them apart.
"I did that," Sam said proudly, still leaning over him, "gave Ianto a lil' pep talk and sent him off on the hunt."
Jay sighed.
"Sometimes I worry about your sanity." He said. Sam pulled him back up so they were barely a hair apart.
"Don't," she whispered, her warm breath like feathers on his lips, "you already know I'm crazy - crazy right, in this case!"
Jay laughed.
"Just crazy." He corrected.
"But you love me."
"I do."
Sam gave him a kiss then, and Jay's irritation with her melted away like cotton candy when it hits your tongue. Dammit. Sam was too good at cheering him up when he was upset with her. And if Jack was anything like his renther, Jay was going to pray for Ianto every night for the rest of his life.
