Chapter 8

I'm going to a hockey game, why don't I have enough clothes? Maybe I should've shopped, but I didn't have time. So here I am rubbing the bridge of my nose for 30 minutes trying to come up with an outfit.

What do they even wear in the rink?

Pulling out my phone from my pocket, I open Pinterest for some ideas. Trust me– Pinterest is my life saver.

It's cold in the rink right? Probably.

I searched up 'cold outfits', which doesn't make sense, but I'm stressing so leave me alone. After scrolling for 5 minutes, I found an outfit. I took out my mom jeans, the Essential white hoodie I have, and grabbed my ankle-length beige coat. Am I too overdressed? Maybe, but I'm here to watch a handsome NHL hockey player, cut me some slack.

The door opens, and clicks close, that's probably Nicole. I asked her to come with me, I don't think I can handle this alone, I'd need some moral support.

"You look great, Madi!" She says with a big smile on her face.

"So do you!" I smile back.

She had black trousers on, and a cute cardigan, wearing Dr Martens boots. She went really simple, but it does fit her.

Sitting down on the edge of my bed, I grab my white Converses and tie my shoelaces.

After a few retouches, and putting my hair in a slick back bun. I grabbed my Chanel chain sling bag that I got for my 17th birthday from my mother. I think I put enough jewelry to match the gold on the bag, I'm very satisfied with the Pinterest inspired outfit I have on today.

It's 5:30 in the afternoon, the game starts at 6:30– I really hope New York traffic doesn't make us late. I hate being late.

We're using Nicole's car to go to the game. I would love to drive there, but my car is in the middle of being delivered from Canada all the way here to New York. I've called the delivery company, they told me it'd be here next week. I really hope so.

Blasting Taylor Swift's "The Way I Loved You", me and Nicole sang at the top of our lungs.

"But I miss screaming and crying, and kissing in the rain! It's two am and I'm cursing your name! So in love that I acted insane! And that's the way I loved you!" One of the best chorus Taylor could have ever given us!

The music in the background, Nicole asks.

"You nervous?" she turns her head to me and back to the road.

Am I?

"Not really. No. I'm excited to watch him play though, this is my first time watching hockey since I moved out of Canada." I smile.

My dad wasn't all that bad– if anything, I was a lot closer to him when I was a kid than my mother. He would take me to hockey games every Saturday if he had time.

"Do you have the tickets?" she reminds me.

"I have it on my phone. Nate bought it for us, even before I said 'yes'. He says I just have to show it to the entrance guard, and they'd let us in."

A few minutes later, we arrived at the jam packed parking lot outside of the stadium.

Walking to the entrance, I show my phone and the tickets.

We got sent in, and damn.

"That's a lot of people for a hockey game." Nicole chuckles.

"No shit."

It is a lot of people. I guess it's a home game because most of the people are wearing NJ Devils' jerseys.

"He got us the first row seats. Right over there." I point down the stairs. I'm guessing this would be expensive but he's one of the players so I don't think he paid for any of this.
