SC16 - Into the Wilderness

EXT. ATLA WILDERNESS. MORNING.

The car pulls up beside a river, making one last clunk as it gives out. Kayla and Zavier get out and gape at the humongous mountain range in front of them.

KAYLA: Hilly, you said.

ZAVIER: Those are really big hills.

KAYLA: And how are we supposed to cross that?

ZAVIER: Hey, I thought this through. There should be a valley that runs right between the mountains. So long as we follow that it should be easy.

KAYLA: I don't like the way you say 'should'...

ZAVIER: It'll be fine.

Zavier waves his hand to dismiss the subject. He pulls out a flask and makes his way to the river to fill it up. Kayla turns to the car as Eleanor clambers out sleepily.

KAYLA: (Sarcastically) Ah the guest of honor. Get enough sleep?

Eleanor rubs her eyes and stares for a moment before speaking.

ELEANOR: Am I still asleep? Because those look like mountains to me...

Kayla punches her in the shoulder as she walks past and opens the back door. She begins rummaging the car for supplies.

ELEANOR: Ow! What was that for?

KAYLA: You're not dreaming, kid. But lucky for us, we don't have to do any climbing. Actually scrap that, following Zavier's directions who knows where we'll end up.

ELEANOR: Right. Hey listen... before we get going, I have to show you something.

KAYLA: Whatever you say kiddo.

Eleanor faces the river and lifts a large sphere of water out of it. It hangs in the air for a moment before she drops it back into the river. Zavier yells from the river bank as he is hit by the wake. Eleanor turns back to Kayla who is staring blankly at where the water was suspended. There is an awkward silence while Eleanor waits for a reaction. Not recieving one, she pipes up.

ELEANOR: (Cheery) Well that's a weight off my chest! Let's get going!

Eleanor practically skips away, leaving Kayla frozen on the spot. Zavier - who is now soaked - walks past Eleanor as she strides off toward the valley. He approaches Kayla, who is still frozen in the same pose.

ZAVIER: I'm beginning to think she's more trouble than she's worth.

KAYLA: Yeah... Trouble. Worth.

She blinks and shakes her head, snapping out of it. She grabs her bag then notices Zavier's soaked clothes.

KAYLA: Did you go for a swim or something? No more messing around! We've got to get moving.

She heads off after Eleanor. Zavier gives her a grumpy look that goes unnoticed before sighing and following them.
