Act III - Scene 50: Emerald Industries

SC50 - Emerald Industries

EXT. EMERALD INDUSTRIES. NIGHT.

Kayla ducks behind a metal crate as a shot trails over her head. The shooters are holed up in the lobby and firing out of the windows into the loading bay. Kayla reloads her pistols and then glances down at the next crate along, which Zavier is taking cover behind.

KAYLA: You get any of them?

ZAVIER: Not one, and I'm out.

Zavier holsters his pistol and takes a quick look out at the building.

ZAVIER: There's at least seven of them in there, three on the right. If I had more ammo I could maybe flank around and draw their fire...

KAYLA: Here, catch.

Kayla throws him one of her pistols. A volley of fire rains down between them, hitting nothing but air.

ZAVIER: Alright you wait five seconds and then make a run for it. I'm gonna... wait, what...?

Kayla turns her head to see what Zavier is looking at. The grate on a nearby ventilation shaft shakes several times as though it were being hit hard from the other side, then it flies off the wall and lands right next to Kayla. Eleanor slips out of it and lands behind a low wall.

KAYLA: Elle? What are you doing here? And where the heck did you come from?

ELEANOR: The only safe way up here now is through the vents. I came through the same one we took when you rescued me from the detention wing. We came out just down the hill from here, remember?

KAYLA: But why are you here?!

ELEANOR: I think Balfor's trying to stall for time. Adams told me there's an experimental reactor in the facility that'll blow up half the city in just over an hour. We have to get inside and vent the reactor before that happens!

KAYLA: Oh that's just fantastic. Zave how about you go knock on the door and ask the crazy gunmen to stop shooting at us.

ELEANOR: People are shooting at you?

KAYLA: Balfor has a squad covering the entrance.

ELEANOR: What about your dad? Didn't he bring a squad up here earlier?

KAYLA: I don't know. I'd look for him inside but...

ZAVIER: Hey we can't stay out here talking forever. Kay, we'be gotta act now.

KAYLA: Alright then. Draw their fire. Elle, I'm moving in. Just stay put.

ELEANOR: No, Adams is gonna guide me through venting the reactor. I have to get inside.

KAYLA: Fine. Stay close then.

Zavier pokes his head out again and then turns to Kayla, counting down with his fingers. On zero he leaps out and makes a dive for the next wall, firing at the far left window. Kayla nods to Eleanor and they too run out of cover, making their way up the stairs to the main entrance. Several shots fly past them and Eleanor has to dive forward onto the stairs and crawl up to stay hidden. Kayla extends her hand to help her up.

KAYLA: You alright?

ELEANOR: I'm ok. What about Zave?

KAYLA: He'll be fine. Come on, we have to move.

Kayla kicks open the door and fires several rounds into a soldier that was about to open the door from the other side. Taking cover behind the other door, she manages to pick off another two before they can react. After slipping into the room and checking the corners, Kayla nods to Eleanor to follow. The sound of more gunfire from outside makes Eleanor hesitate and turn back for a moment, but unable to see Zavier she continues to follow Kayla. Then a sudden yell of pain from outside stops them both in their tracks.
