SC63 - Dawn

INT. ST. NERO CHAPEL LOUNGE. DAWN.

Eleanor wakes up to a bright light in her face. The light is filtering through the gaps between the closed curtains and reflecting off the sceptre, which has slid off the chair onto the floor. She sits up so that the light is no longer in her eyes and pushes the blanket aside. Looking through the gap between the curtains, she can see that it is still early in the morning as the sun is only just starting to rise. There is a sudden scream from behind her and she spins around to see Jan running at her from the hallway.

JAN: Ella! You're back!

ELEANOR: Jan!

Jan throws her arms around her and Eleanor lifts her off the ground, hugging her tightly. She places her back on the ground in time to see Mayne walk back in, smiling.

MAYNE: Morning Elle! You seem a little more awake now.

ELEANOR: Yeah. It's so good to see you both again.

JAN: Dad made me do aaaaallll your chores!

MAYNE: That is not true, you didn't even have to do chores in Ethos. Everything was done for us.

JAN: Well you made me tidy up my room yesterday!

MAYNE: With good reason!

Eleanor smiles at the two of them. Then without warning there is a loud banging on the front door. Eleanor whips around in surprise again.

MAYNE: I have feeling that's for you dear.

Puzzled, Eleanor clambers to her feet and heads down the hallway. She opens the front door and shields her eyes from the bright sunlight, but her hand drops as she recognizes the two people outside. They stare in disbelief at each other for a few moments before Zavier grabs her in a tight bear hug, lifting her off the floor.

ZAVIER: You're alive!

ELEANOR: Eeek! Careful, you're gonna crush me.

Zavier lets her go quickly and just stares at her with his mouth wide open. Kayla steps forward and punches Eleanor in the shoulder.

ELEANOR: Hey! It's nice to see you too...

KAYLA: Just checking you're real.

ELEANOR: Oh. Well... you could have just asked.

KAYLA: Consider it payback for jumping ship! Which brings me to my next point, how the hell did you get here?

ELEANOR: Will you take 'it's a long story' as an answer?

KAYLA: Not really.

ELEANOR: Speaking of people being where they shouldn't be, what are you guys doing here?

ZAVIER: Your dad contacted us last night and said you just showed up out of nowhere! We came straight here as soon as we could get hold of a cruiser.

ELEANOR: Oh that makes sense. I was kinda hoping you guys had some crazy out-of-this-world reason for showing up, that way my story would seem less... well unbelievable.

KAYLA: You still haven't explained that to us by the way.

ELEANOR: I'll get to that. First I have to know, what happened after you guys got through the portal?

ZAVIER: We got back and the mist had cleared. We got a broadcast from the General giving us an update - he's fine by the way, but the Sword is wrecked along with half the fleet. Captain Marneus - the great cowardly one - surrendered as soon as word reached him that Demencia was dead. When we saw the rest of the demon ships coming out of the portal we knew you'd done it. We wanted to go back in to find you but that's when we got the call from your dad and well... that's about it.

ELEANOR: What's gonna happen to the demons?

KAYLA: We don't know yet, but Father wants your opinion on it. We told him that you were trying to save them but it was all pretty confusing honestly. It'll be much better once you explain everything to him.

ELEANOR: Then let's go see him now. Where would we find him?

KAYLA: He'd be back at Mayagarde by now, probably trying to get the senate back together. But it's gonna take a while to get there, maybe you should...

ELEANOR: Mayagarde senate building it is!

Eleanor calls back down the hallway.

ELEANOR: Hey dad, I'll be back in a bit! I have something to take care of.

Eleanor raises her arm and a gate appears, hovering above the path in front of the chapel. She runs towards it and waves her hand for them to follow. Zavier and Kayla stare with their mouths open again.

ELEANOR: Oh yeah... this is a thing now. C'mon, we haven't got all day.

ZAVIER: You know what, I'm not even gonna ask.

KAYLA: It's probably for the best.

Eleanor laughs and runs through the gate, with Zavier and Kayla close behind her.
