SC48 - Shoring the Defenses

EXT. MAYAGARDE CITY - UPPER CITY PLAZA. AFTERNOON.

Kayla barrels through a crowd of soldiers, looking in every direction for her father. She soon spots him giving out orders by a large turret that has been installed in the centre of the upper city plaza.

KAYLA: Dad! Do you have a minute?

Zavier and Eleanor catch up to them. Greye looks at the three of them, puzzled.

GREYE: What's the matter?

KAYLA: Has the squad you sent to Emerald Industires reported back yet?

GREYE: No. They were supposed to be back by now... is there a problem?

ELEANOR: We think Balfor is hiding up there.

GREYE: Damn! I didn't think about that. The complex has been empty for days, it'd be the perfect place to hide...

Greye tails off, suddenly struck by a thought.

GREYE: But what's he up to? He must know it won't be long before we catch him.

KAYLA: Let us go. We'll find him and...

GREYE: Absolutely not!

KAYLA: But...

GREYE: Raije is my problem.

Kayla backs down and nods relucatantly.

GREYE: I want you three to help set up the defenses back here in the upper city, and when the battle starts I'll need you to defend the anti-air guns. There's this one here, another on top of an old warehouse to the east of here and the last is up on the landing pad by the senate building. Do not let those guns fall, they are our only ticket to bringing down their warships. I will return once I have Balfor.

Greye turns to leave but stops in his tracks. He turns to look one last time at Kayla.

GREYE: Be safe.

KAYLA: You too.

GREYE: Zavier, you stick to her like glue.

ZAVIER: Don't you worry sir. She'll be alright with me.

Greye nods at him and then jogs away, calling to some soldiers to join him as he leaves the plaza. Eleanor turns to the other two.

ELEANOR: You two stay here and help set up. I'll go check on the other guns.

They nod, then they make their way towards a group of soldiers setting up barricades at the top of the stairway. Eleanor runs off to the east to check on the warehouse gun. After a few minutes of running down streets she stops, glancing down both ends of the road at some familiar sights.

ELEANOR: Oh don't tell me I went in a circle! This city is way more confusing than it needs to be.

Eleanor catches a voice carrying over the noise of the crowded street.

VOSS: Hey Eleanor!

Dr. Voss comes stumbling through the crowd, carrying a large box of medical supplies. He trips on a stone jutting out of the road and the box goes flying, scattering its contents all over the ground. Eleanor runs over to him.

ELEANOR: Are you alright?

VOSS: Oh yeah, I'm good. But the medicine...

ELEANOR: I'll help you pick it all up.

They dive into action and in no time at all, the box is full again and resting still somewhat unbalanced in Voss's arms.

VOSS: Thanks a bunch Eleanor!
