SC24 - Homecoming

EXT. ST. NERO SHORE. NIGHT.

Eleanor, Zavier and Kayla dock the Rainfall in the St. Nero harbour. They then make their way back to Eleanor's home on the edge of town. Once there, Eleanor knocks on the door and waits. It is opened by January, who leaps up and down in excitement when she sees her sister.

JAN: Elle!

Jan leaps forward and hugs her.

ELEANOR: I missed you so much...

They separate and Jan yells down the hall.

JAN: Father, Father! Elle's back!

Mayne hurries out of the kitchen and down the hall towards them. Eleanor smiles nervously.

ELEANOR: Sorry I'm late.

MAYNE: Praise Haven you're alright! We were so worried about you.

ELEANOR: We might've ran into a couple of problems...

Another man emerges from the kitchen. He is wearing a dark blue coat and is leaning on a cane, staring at them with curiosity. Eleanor spots him and throws Mayne a confused look.

MAYNE: Ah Elle, when you didn't come back I went to someone I knew I could trust... do come in out of the cold, everyone.

Eleanor enters, followed by the others. She approaches the man with the cane. He extends his hand.

MAN: You must be Eleanor. I've heard much about you. I am Lyndsar Solis, High Priest of Ethos and former advisor to the Emperor.

Zavier and Kayla glance at each other, stunned, but Eleanor is unphased and shakes his hand.

ELEANOR: I know who you are, sir. But... why are you here?

SOLIS: (Pauses) There is much we need to talk about. (Looks at Mayne) Perhaps we could move into the living room, it'll be much warmer.

They file into the living room. Solis and Eleanor take seats opposite each other while Zavier and Kayla lean on the wall by the door. Mayne instructs Jan to go upstairs and then takes the chair beside Eleanor. Solis picks up a half-empty glass and begins to drink.

SOLIS: This wine is excellent, by the way. I must visit you more often, Argus.

MAYNE: You're always welcome here, Lyndsar.

Solis nods and continues to drink. Eleanor turns to Mayne.

ELEANOR: Father, I have to talk to you about what happened...

Mayne shakes his head.

MAYNE: We already know most of it.

ELEANOR: What? How?

MAYNE: I have my sources... and along with Lyndsar's contacts in the government, we were able to get a fairly clear picture of everything that transpired.

ELEANOR: But I don't understand... why?

MAYNE: I was worried for you, Elle. I couldn't stop you going, not after seeing how much it meant to you. So I did what I could to keep you safe. But I realize now it was a mistake to let you go unprepared as you were. The time has come to share with you the truth, so that you can better take care of yourself.

ELEANOR: What truth?

There is a moments silence, then the High Priest speaks.

SOLIS: That you hold within you a greater power than you know. A power that has been passed down in your family for generations. I trust you are all aware of the events that brought about the end of the Portal War?
