SC23 - All the Way to the Top
EXT. AXIUS TOWN HALL. NIGHT.
The Emperor ascends the stairs in front of the Axius town hall, flanked by several guards. He stops in front of Balfor, who bows as low as he can.
CRIMSON: (Over his shoulder) Guards, leave us. Stand up, Balfor.
The guards leave and Balfor stands up straight. He waits until the guards are out of earshot to speak.
BALFOR: I realize this situation is most undesirable but we have an opportunity to fix this if we act now. I just need to give the order and our forces in St. Nero can apprehend the girl. Her family would be all the leverage we need...
Emperor Crimson holds up a hand to silence him. He pauses and looks out towards the ocean, stepping away from Balfor.
CRIMSON: Have you heard the news? I don't suppose you've been paying attention. The Philosopher vanished during the night. It appears Dr. Adams and her team are behind it.
BALFOR: What does it matter now? All you need is the girl and I can still get her for you!
CRIMSON: No, Balfor. You will return to Mayagarde. You have tried my patience for far too long.
Balfor falls silent, then looks around to make sure they are completely alone.
BALFOR: We had an agreement!
CRIMSON: And it still stands. I advise you to hold up your end of the bargain.
Balfor stammers for a moment before giving up.
BALFOR: Have it your way. But remember, I don't have to bow to you when this is over.
Balfor storms off down the stairs. Emperor Crimson stays where he is, continuing to gaze out over the ocean.
