SC22 - The Harbour

EXT. AXIUS HARBOUR. SUNSET.

Balfor paces back and forth behind Kayla, who still has her hands bound and is standing at the end of a wooden pier facing the water. Two guards have their guns pointed at her while the rest of the harbour is swarming with soldiers, their weapons covering various entry points.

BALFOR: Well my dear, it looks like your knight in shining armor hasn't shown. And to think you gave up such a good life for him.

KAYLA: He'll be here...

Kayla gazes at the ocean. The sunset is reflected in the still water, giving it a bright golden glow. Balfor stops pacing and glares at the back of her head.

BALFOR: Face it, Kayla. He's left you for the other girl already. You'll probably never see him again.

Kayla says nothing. Balfor lets out a small 'hmph' in satisfaction.

GUARD #1: Sir!

The guard points in the direction of the harbour gate. Balfor spins around to see Eleanor walking alone towards them. Her hands are tied behind her back. Two soldiers run forward to apprehend her.

BALFOR: (Laughs) This is rich! The boy is such a coward, he sends her right to us and flees for his life!

The surrounding guards laugh with him. Kayla turns and looks at Eleanor. Eleanor's eyes quickly dart to the other end of the harbour before she is steered toward Balfor. Kayla glances in the same direction and spots Zavier sneaking behind a container, having used the distraction to get into the harbour. She almost cries out in happiness but manages to hide it, instead she just tilts her head toward the Rainfall. Zavier gets the point and nods, slipping out of sight. Balfor stands before Eleanor with a smug grin on his face. The guards throw her to her knees and Balfor leans in close.

BALFOR: At last I have you. This time you won't get away so easily.

ELEANOR: Must have been embarrassing for you, losing me like that.

BALFOR: Watch your mouth, girl. Hmph! I expected this kind of behaviour from Kayla but you were raised by such... polite company.

Eleanor looks confused, which Balfor notices. He smiles again.

BALFOR: Oh yes, I know Argus Mayne. After all, his reputation with the High Priest - and the Emperor - preceeds him. (Laughs) But I expect he never told you any of that, did he?

Eleanor stares at him in disbelief.

BALFOR: Perhaps you can ask him if you ever see him again. Oh and if you want to, you'll need to do everything I say. If you still refuse, well imagine what would happen to your friends, your father... and poor little January.

ELEANOR: (Angrily) You stay away from her!

BALFOR: (Laughs) What are you going to do about it?

Eleanor pauses for a moment to calm down.

ELEANOR: How about this?

Eleanor raises her hands, which are now untied. Balfor is stunned for a moment before standing up straight. As he is about to bark an order to the guards, Eleanor slams her hands down onto the ground. Water cascades through the gaps in the wood and the floor begins to break away, quickly collapsing the entire pier. Suddenly, the Rainfall kicks into life and Zavier steers it over towards the collapsed pier. Kayla swims over to it and climbs on board. Zavier throws her a gun from the helm as the soldiers in the harbour begin firing on the boat. Taking cover, Kayla fires back and desperately searches the water for Eleanor.

KAYLA: Come on... where are you?

Eleanor resurfaces and catches her breath. The soldiers spot her and begin to fire in her direction but she flings her arm out, unleashing a huge surge of water that crashes into the harbour, knocking over the remaining soldiers. She is propelled backwards by her own force and spirals through the air, landing on a pile of netting on the deck of the Rainfall. The boat speeds away from the harbour and once they are at a safe distance, Kayla runs over to Eleanor, who is hidden amongst the netting.

KAYLA: Are you alright?

Eleanor clambers out and stands up, looking thoroughly bedraggled. She gives Kayla a dazed look.

ELEANOR: That went well.

Kayla laughs and shakes her head. Then she lunges forward and hugs Eleanor, much to her surprise.

KAYLA: You're crazy!

ELEANOR: (Grinning) You're welcome.

Zavier grins at them from the helm. Eleanor and Kayla spot him and seperate.

ZAVIER: Surely those aren't tears I see, Kayla?

KAYLA: Shut up you.

She walks over and hugs him too. Zavier catches Eleanor's eye and she smiles knowingly at him. He blushes and pats Kayla on the back.

ZAVIER: (Clears his throat) Alright, alright. I'd better keep steering this thing or who knows where we'll end up.

Kayla lets him go and he retakes the helm. Eleanor stands at a railing and looks back at Axius which is glowing in the sunset, now far away.
