SC21 - It's Complicated

INT. OLD AXIUS WAREHOUSE. MIDDAY.

Zavier and Eleanor enter an abandoned warehouse. The place is empty apart from a few crates and the walls are covered in graffiti. Zavier slides the door shut behind them while Eleanor takes a seat on a crate.

ZAVIER: This should do us for now.

Zavier sits on another crate, across from Eleanor. He opens his bag and fishes out a couple of energy bars, handing one to Eleanor.

ELEANOR: Thanks.

Eleanor unwraps it but then stops and stares at the bag. Zavier catches her concerned look.

ZAVIER: Something up?

ELEANOR: In your bag, is that... the stone that Balfor gave you?

ZAVIER: Yeah... well it didn't seem right to leave it behind. (He pulls it out of his bag) Sorry, I should have told you. We've just had so much going on I kinda forgot about it.

ELEANOR: If it's alright, I'd like to have another look at it.

Eleanor holds out her hand. Zavier hesitates.

ZAVIER: Are you sure? We don't know what might happen.

ELEANOR: I'm sure.

Zavier drops it into her palm. The stone bursts into light again and they close their eyes but Eleanor tightens her grip and the light recedes this time, simply glowing gently in her hand. Zavier opens his eyes and stares at the stone.

ZAVIER: What happened?

ELEANOR: (Eyes still closed) I can feel the energy in there. It's strange. They're... images. A battle. And a woman. She's hurt! The darkness... No, stop!

ZAVIER: Elle!

He grabs her arm and an image flashes through both of their minds - that of a robed man with long dark hair and a blindfold. Zavier lets go and Eleanor collapses. The stone falls to the ground between them. Zavier scrambles to help Eleanor.

ZAVIER: Are you ok?

ELEANOR: I'm fine.

ZAVIER: What happened? Who was that man?

ELEANOR: You saw him too?

ZAVIER: Yeah, when I grabbed your arm.

ELEANOR: I don't know who he is... I don't...

Eleanor loses her balance but Zavier catches her.

ZAVIER: Steady there. Sit down.

She sits on the floor with her back against a crate.

ZAVIER: What else did you see?

ELEANOR: Nothing I haven't seen before.

ZAVIER: What do you mean?

Eleanor pauses to gather her thoughts. Then she looks straight at Zavier.

ELEANOR: I had a dream, the night I spent at your guild. I saw the same thing the stone showed me. There was a woman and a man, Calscarn. They were fighting demons. I think the woman was trying to tell me something. I don't know, it didn't make any sense.

ZAVIER: Calscarn... You know, that name sounds familiar. I might have read it somewhere.

ELEANOR: I think I know who he is... but that can't be right.

ZAVIER: Who...?

Zavier is cut off by static from his wrist comm.

ZAVIER: It'll be Kayla.

Zavier stands and presses the recieve button on his comm, speaking into it.

ZAVIER: How's it looking, Kay?

BALFOR VO: Well well, if it isn't the mercenary! I don't believe this was part of the job, now was it?

Zavier and Eleanors faces drop. They is silence for a moment before Zavier raises his wrist to speak again.

ZAVIER: Balfor...

BALFOR: Well done. Second guess but there's no prize for that.

ZAVIER: What do you want? What have you done with Kayla?

BALFOR: Oh she's fine, for now. And you'll see her again as soon as you hand over Eleanor.

ZAVIER: Not on your life, Balfor.

BALFOR: Well well, aren't we rude. Tell you what, you have until sundown to bring me the girl. I'll be waiting at the harbour, on the northern pier. For Kayla's sake, you'd better show up. If you don't, well she'll have a nice view of the harbour... from underwater.

With that, the comm shuts off. Eleanor turns to Zavier who has a look of fury on his face.

ELEANOR: What do we do?

Zavier swings his sword over his back and draws his gun from his pack.

ZAVIER: Stay here. I'm gonna go get her back.

Zavier turns to leave but Eleanor stands up and grabs his arm.

ELEANOR: Not without me, you're not.

ZAVIER: I'm not putting you at risk again. This one's my fight.

ELEANOR: If they capture you, it'll only be a matter of time before they find me! Neither of us can do this alone, Zave. Just let me help.

Zavier thinks for a moment before nodding.

ZAVIER: Alright.

He points to an old rope hanging off the wall.

ZAVIER: Hand me that rope, I've got an idea.
