SC43: Flight of the Sword

INT. THE SWORD OF MAYA. NIGHT.

VOICE: She's waking up!

Eleanor opens her eyes slightly to see a dimly lit room and a blurry figure standing beside her.

SECOND VOICE: Step aside Doctor. I need to talk to her.

Another blurry figure replaces the first. It leans over and begins to come into focus - General Greye. Eleanor is lying on a table in the middle of an untidy room, full of consoles and surrounded by windows with the blinds drawn down.

GREYE: How are you doing Eleanor?

Eleanor raises herself onto her elbows with considerable effort.

ELEANOR: I'm fine... what, where am I? Where are Zavier and Kayla?

GREYE: You are onboard the Sword of Maya, the commanding battleship in the Mayagarde fleet. My daughter and Zavier are just fine. Kayla's arm will take some time to heal, but the doctor says there is no permanent damage.

ELEANOR: That's good, but why am I... wait, you were in the sky. That was your voice I heard.

Greye nods and extends his hand in greeting, which Eleanor grasps.

GREYE: My name is General Valar Greye. I require your assistance Eleanor - as of yet we are unable to piece together exactly what happened down in the ruins. I need you to tell me exactly what you saw.

Eleanor suddenly notices another man sitting in the opposite corner of the room, now being attended to by the doctor, who is patching up the scars on his face. The man is wearing a tattered brown cloak and has a sunken, pale face. Eleanor scrambles backwards slightly in shock.

ELEANOR: Get him out of here! He's... he's...

GREYE: This is Emperor Crimson. The real one, I should add.

ELEANOR: The real one?

Crimson brushes off the doctor attending to his face and stands up. He limps towards Eleanor with a sympathetic face.

CRIMSON: I should apologize for everything my impostor put you through. I assure you I will be doing my utmost to repair the damage caused by the events of late.

Eleanor stares at him blankly, then turns to Greye with a confused look.

GREYE: We found him chained up in the ruins along with two civilians. He is for the most part, unharmed. Apparantly the impostor needed him alive to maintain his appearance.

ELEANOR: General... what happened after I opened the portal?

GREYE: We landed and picked up those who were waiting on the ground. Then Dr. Adams and her crew were evacuated from the Philosopher - under the assumption that the detonator wouldn't be able to transmit a signal from another world. One of our teams entered the ruins, they found you and the Emperor and brought you back here to be attended to. You're going to be fine, by the way.

ELEANOR: But the portal! How many demons have made it through? Are we gonna be able to fight back?

GREYE: Calm yourself Eleanor. There are no demons. The portal closed after the impostor passed through.

ELEANOR: It closed?

GREYE: That's right. I can show you if you like.

Greye walls round the table to one of the windows and pushes a button on the wall. The shutters slide open, letting in the bright morning sunlight. Eleanor swings her legs over the side of the table and leans forward. The ship is still on the ground next to the ruins. On the platform in the middle, clearly visible from their elevated position, the stone is back to it's original form and no longer glowing.
