CHAPTER 31

The Royal Vampire Estate in Romania...

The dark red line trailed down and crimson contents flowed into the veins of the woman who lay in an unnatural slumber. The vampire princess sat next to the low laying bed so that the blood would flow the patient's body much easier.

Hadassah sighed as she observed at the grey pallor over the normally rich brown skin. By looking at her, a human would think that Stacey Harrison-Lockner was dead. Her lips and finger tips were tinged a bluish-purple and there was a morbid stillness to her body. Her heart was so slow and still that any human doctor would have pronounced the young woman as deceased.

But Hadassah knew better. The venom she injected into Stacey's dying body began the process of the change and the blood flooding her veins assured it.

Flashback...

Hadassah handed the phone to the flight attendant before sitting back in her seat. "Tell the pilot to redirect the plane to Lythburg."

"Yes, Your Highness." The woman in uniform responded before leaving.

"What does your father want with this Rian de Paor?" Hadassah's Eternal One, Zana, asked as he cut into the steak he was eating.

"You were literally sitting right across from me for both phone calls to my father and Lord Mallory." Hadassah said in exasperation.

"Yeah, but I was eating so I wasn't paying attention. Besides, the author gave us a sucky start to this section without fully explaining things. The readers probably don't remember Chapter 25 nor would they remember the details. So, you're going to have to explain things while the author bounces off the walls on a caffeine fueled high." Zana said as he dug his fork into the baked potato.

Hadassah sighed as she took a sip of her water and then looked heavenward, "Please help the author to stay focused and NOT get off track onto another weird tangent."

"Āmīn [Amen]" Zana agreed.

The flight attendant returned to let them know that they would be landing in two hours. Setting a fresh chicken Caesar salad in front of Hadassah, the woman left the couple to eat their meal.

"My father wants us to bring Rian de Paor to our family's main estate." Hadassah said as she poured the extra dressing on top of the lettuce.

"Why not to the High Council Headquarters?"

"The problems with the Prime Purity are making him... cautious. The fact that a member of the Werewolf Council in North America has openly betrayed his kind has my father paranoid. Allowing the man who created the machines to open portals, held at a place where anyone of rank could access him, doesn't sit well. So, father wants him in a place where all of the guards are well known and no one can easily break in."

"Makes sense. But surely, he doesn't think that the Vale family has anything to do with those fanatics?" Zana asked. The Vale's were the Royal Alpha family of the Werewolves. Alpha King Victor Vale was always supportive of Zana and didn't look down upon him because he wasn't born a Royal Vampire. Zana considered Victor and Victor's son, Barak, his best friends.

"Betrayal can come from anywhere." Hadassah replied soberly. "Otherwise, my brother, and not I, would be next in line."

Zana nodded.

Taking a cleansing breath, Hadassah pushed away the bad memories. "I just got off the phone with Lord Mallory who has agreed to release de Paor into our custody. So now we are heading to Lord Mallory's product's home to pick up the prisoner."

---------------------

The scent of blood was heavy in the air. The guards cleared the area and told the royal couple that the only person in the house was a young woman on the brink of death. Ignoring protests, Hadassah ran into the house following the gurgling noise.

"She won't make it." Zana said seeing the young woman they had agreed to sponsor at the Vampire Ball.

"I have to try." Hadassah said and lifted Stacey in her arms. Biting into her jugular, Hadassah released the powerful venom that started the process of the change from human to vampire. Zana called for a medical kit and began working on closing and sealing the open wounds on Stacey's throat.

Pulling back Hadassah grabbed an alcohol swab to clean a spot on her arm. Zana inserted a needle to begin a blood transfusion. Using another swab, he cleaned Stacey's arm and placed the receiver end into her vein.

"We're technically breaking the rules. We need to get to Romania now." Zana said quickly writing a note and placing it on the table. Calling the guards, they carried the women to the car and headed back to their private landing strip.

End of Flashback...

It would have been better if Stacey's Eternal One, Malachi, had begun the change but it couldn't be helped. Stacey would have died if Hadassah had waited. So, the vampire princess had to continue to give her blood to her new product. It has been a long time since she was a Progenitor but it is well worth the trouble. Hadassah's last product was a young woman who was the Eternal One to a newly turned vampire. The couple were now a part of her political network and acting as ambassadors in Europe.

Malachi and Laken were finally resting. She had to order them to go eat, bathe, and sleep or the guards would drag them away. They had arrived a week ago and had refused to leave Stacey's side. The men were very yet understandably upset when they arrived. Their main concerns were their injured Beloved and missing child. Hadassah helped them focus enough to call their friend and nanny, Cotton Evans. Cotton informed them that Stacey had dropped Margo off at her house because she had planned a special anniversary dinner for them. By the looks on the men's faces, Hadassah could tell they had forgotten but with everything that had happened it seemed irrelevant.

Cotton assured them that she would look after Margo until they could return. The doctors were optimistic that Stacey would awaken soon. The most severe wounds were beginning to heal now that the change was almost complete and the last vestige of human vulnerability was eradicated.

Removing the needle, Hadassah could see that a lot of Stacey's natural coloring had returned and her lips and fingertips were no longer purple. Soon she would awaken and a new challenge would begin.
