CHAPTER 15
Rogue Lands...
After going through candidate after candidate, Eesha was ready kill someone. She was so sick of people right now it wasn't even funny. Most of the applicants, both male and female, were only interested in the Alpha King personally. Being known for one's sexual exploits drew an unprofessional crowd. A few even tried to seduce Eesha but she sent them packing immediately. The remaining nine, didn't seem too promising. Six were so elderly that they would have to retire a week after they were hired. Not wanting to turn them away, Eesha found them other positions that would be suitable for their experience just so they could earn a decent wage and have something to do. Which was really what all of the elderly bunch wanted.
The last three were a man in his mid20s named Bryan and two women, Cali and Monica. Both Bryan and Cali had the education but something about Monica interested her. She gave the name Monica Briar and if Eesha wasn't mistaken the paper work the girl carried were forgeries. They were good forgeries but fake none the less. Most rogues didn't have legitimate legal papers. She would have to make her fake identity real by applying for the correct documentation. Most of it was done with copies of originals and it was an easy process since supernatural beings had to constantly "update" their date of birth. Relocation and new identities were also common.
Monica and Bryan were werewolves, unlike most weres, Monica did not have a detectable scent. Her movements were too efficient to be called graceful and she didn't move or speak unless necessary. Intelligent eyes observed everything around her and she was completely calm no matter what questions were fired at her.
Eesha called the trio into Dameon's still wrecked office to conduct a final group interview. Sitting behind the desk she invited them to have a seat. The three looked around hesitantly as Eesha waited. Bryan walked towards the chair next to the desk it was filled with papers.
"Do you mind if I move these?" he asked.
Eesha said nothing and kept her face blank. Unsure of himself, Bryan picked up the stack and set it on the floor. The only vampire, Cali, cat-walked across the littered floor. Her sharp heels pierced through several sheets of paper. Disgust show on her pale ice-cold features as she took in the messy room. Monica was already seated on a side bench next to a bookcase, observing in silent stillness. Eesha forgot that that bench was even there and would not have noticed Monica had she not been looking for her.
Before Eesha could ask the first question, the door burst open and Dameon walked.
"What the fuck is this?" he asked stomping into the room. "Who are these people?"
"They are being interviewed to be your personal assistant." Eesha replied.
"So, an ice pop and a dweeb were the best you could do?" Dameon sneered.
"Dweeb." He barked at Bryan. "Tell me a joke."
"W-what?" Bryan stuttered completely dumbfounded and intimidated by the Alpha wolf.
"Tell me... a fucking joke? Dameon repeated slowly.
"Uh, um. Knock, knock?"
"Who's there." Dameon growled.
"F-finger." Bryan stuttered.
Dameon's eyes narrowed. "Finger... Who?"
Red faced and embarrassed, Bryan jumped up and ran out.
Dameon turned and looked over at the vampire who eyed at him with distaste.
"What about you freeze pop?" Dameon raised a brow in her direction. "You ain't got the tits or ass to be attractive so you have to be funny." He mocked.
Ignoring him, the woman looked over at Eesha. "I refuse to work for this buffoon."
Standing blonde left.
"Welp... Looks like you're cleaning this." Dameon said with a smug smirk.
Eesha gave him a slow smile. "Monica. You're hired."
"Thank you, Queen Eesha." A humble melodic voice said quietly.
Dameon whipped around and was surprised to see that someone was indeed still in his office. He wanted to dismiss her at first glance but his wolf, Phinn, was curious and wanted to get closer. Dameon ignored his wolf. She wasn't his type but he had to admit that she was attractive and had a nice figure. It was odd that he couldn't detect her scent but he just dismissed the fact considering that the blonde vampire had enough perfume on to drown a corpse.
"Just call me Eesha." The vampire said with amusement in her tone, "and this baboon is Dameon."
"Your boss." Dameon growled to assert dominance. He wasn't quite what to make of her and he didn't like that she looked so calm. "IF... you can tell me a joke."
Monica met his gaze unflinchingly. "Walk three feet to your left and faced the far wall."
Dameon complied and found himself staring at a mirror hanging over his mini bar.
"Do you see your reflection?" Monica asked.
"Yes?"
"There's your joke. Enjoy." Monica deadpanned.
The normally serious Eesha burst out laughing.
Dameon glared at Monica who stared back unflinchingly. His wolf loved the challenge but Dameon found her confidence annoying and would punish her for her defiance.
"Well, congratulations!" he said mockingly to Eesha. "At least you definitely don't have to worry about me sleeping with this one."
Eesha raised a brow in his direction but said nothing.
"Get this shit cleaned up before I get back in a few days." Dameon growled at his new personal assistant.
------------------
Mona Talts looked at the clock. It was three in the morning; she was tired but satisfied. She had managed to sort out all the files into an efficient system. It took her three days to get to Rogue Lands and find someone to provide her with documentation such as a driver's license for her new identity, Monica Briar.
Life was beginning to come together. She had enrolled herself into online courses when she graduated high school. Her parents knew nothing about it and never mentioned college to her so she had taken her own intuitive. She would change her name in the system in the morning. It was through a "human" university so her father would be able to access any of her information without causing a stir. Almost all of the money she had saved had gone to paying for business classes.
Now she had a job making decent money that she'll be able to save enough for next semester. The fact that she wouldn't have to pay for rent and was given a small room near the office was a huge plus. The only downsides to this situation, Dameon didn't seem to like her and he was her mate.
==================================
Dameon: Round three.
Hopefully third time's a charm cause I'm really liking Mona.
