CHAPTER 55

Cub Creek Territory...

Alec Somers listened as the Dark Fairy King spoke the words of ancient spell as the witch, Ebony Black, translated for the benefit of the Protector who wished to know. He couldn't think of a reasonable way of escaping his "assistant" so he knocked the kid out and put him in the Cub Creek cells.

Zara had shaken her head at him, she felt that he could have tried explaining things to the boy but Alec didn't have time. Westley Garner was young but Alec wasn't taking any chances. The hunter's father, Warren Garner, was not someone you messed with. The older hunter carried a dark aura and his cold eyes held a thousand secrets.

Matthew Brush had, since taking over the Hunter's Council, largely ignored the mostly silent man. He stayed out of his way and the favor was returned. In contrast, Westley was quite the talker and the questions he asked were deceptive in nature. Alec noticed that the younger Garner was extremely manipulative but had got them some awesome deals on first class tickets and hotel rooms after negotiating with travel agents.

Maybe once things settle perhaps, he could have time to talk to Westley but until then, he would need to focus on the tribulations headed their way. Taking his Soulmate's hand, Alec pressed a kiss on the back while praying for the safety of his family.

The air turned ice cold suddenly and a gust of wind blew. Just like that all life on earth, that was not supernatural, froze. The Plan was now in motion and the war had begun.

--------------------

Dona sat on a bench in front of a pyre as Haggai's body was burned. This was how he wanted to be buried. She was so very tired but it was not the time to join her Soulmate and family who had passed on before her. Shadow had promised Haggai a noble end and he had been at peace with that. But the time had come and his only regret was leaving her behind.

Lee held the women he thought of as a second mother close but she wasn't in grief. She knew that her time was short and this body would remain as soon as her soul left it. But first, the witch had a purpose to serve. Haggai's death released his fox's spirit and now the curse she had made so long ago to protect the fox shifters was fully broken.

Alec took a seat next to the pair. "I'm sorry for your loss."

"Thank you." Dona said politely.

"I knew another fox shifter. We meet years ago. I still considered him and his wife the best friends I ever had. But when Brush took over, things were different, I had to change so that I would appear to be heartless and cruel towards supernatural creatures. If I didn't, Brush would simply replace me with someone who would truly be a monster. I helped so many creatures escape but I couldn't save everyone." Alec said with deep regret.

Dona said nothing but knew that evil beings, such as Brush and Melanie would forever destroy what little good there was in the world. That thought put a new determination in her spirit. The prophesy would be fulfilled. Melanie would die at the hands of a fox shifter. Dona would ensure that it happened no matter the cost.

Remi walked through the woods with Skylar by his side. It was time. Ivory White would be released from her confines. Their souls were merged together from birth but now she would be freed. Reaching the outer edges of Cub Creek territory. They could feel several pairs of eyes observing them.

"We don't have long before we have company." Skyler said.

"So how do we do this?" Remi asked.

"No idea." Skylar said with a shrug. "Author really doesn't have a plan here. She just writing hoping that inspiration will strike."

"So, what do we do? Walk around in circles? We're going to die out here when Grim shows up."

"I can't die in this book cause she's going to need me for future spin offs." Skylar commented as she pulled out a deck of cards from her dress pocket. "Old Maid?"

"Eh, why not? It's not like the author's thought of anything useful yet." Remi sat on a bed of moss and crossed his legs. "This book feels choppy at times when she's constantly skipping between storylines. And there's so many important points that she has yet to write."

"I know there's a huge upset and she hasn't even dropped any hints that it's coming. Oh wait, never mind, she went back and added stuff. Where is Asya and Night going anyways?"

Remi shrugged. "She needs to close off several storylines but then again she keeps thinking of spin offs and then she'll forget about them later and then we'll end with up a bunch of open storylines... again."

"She might just decide to put everything into bonus chapters rather than spin offs."

"Ha! What are the chances that readers will allow her to put Gideon and Aurora's story in a bonus chapter rather than a book?"

"Not likely." Skylar dealt the cards. "Besides she has so many ideas for that book. Readers love Gideon BUT... what if he wasn't the wise wholesome moralistic vampire we know today?"

"Oh dang. She's going to be evil, isn't she?"

"Oh, you have no idea... actually she has no idea so we'll get to it when we get to it, I guess."

"Why are we still talking?" Remi asked.

"Coffee has kicked in and she's still stuck." Aurora glared at the Author. "Stop being stupid and find another dang scene to write!"

Indigo Sky Pack...

Galen gently laid the small boy in his crib. As the nursery door quietly opened. Shade smiled at the large, almost hulk like figure dressed in black standing in a room that looked so delicate with baby blue walls. Her mate, Frederick, hated this room and didn't understand why everything was so small and fragile. Shade almost laughed when she thought of the tremendous creak the rocking chair made when he sat on it. The adults exited the room.

"Thanks for watching him." Shade said.

"It is no problem. He's a good baby." Galen sighed as they walked into the kitchen. "I'm thankful that you and your mate have opened your home to me but how much longer before I can join my mate?"

Shade poured them both a glass of tea from the fridge. She hadn't heard from her niece in quite some time and felt guilty for not being able to give him the answer he longed to hear. "I honestly don't know."

Galen couldn't stop the sadness from showing. "Sometimes I wish I wasn't given a healer's gift."

Shade froze. "A healer's gift...?" She said with a stunned expression. "The necklace."

"What?" Galen asked confused.

"'A healer's gift!' That's what Shadow called the necklace that she gave to Remi's mother. But where did she get the necklace? I have to call Tracy! She needs to follow the necklace!"

Grabbing the phone, the call went to voicemail.

"Tracy! It's Shade! I need you to follow the necklace that Shadow had back further. I need to know where it came from. Call me!" she said before replacing the phone.

A wave of cold reached them and Galen could feel the power behind it. Luckily, he caught Shade before she fell to the ground.

"Sjoe!"

Taking the phone on the counter from it cradle, Galen carried Shade to the living room and laid her on the couch. The Alpha was on speed dial and he immediately called.

"Shade?"

"No. It's Galen. Shade has just passed out."

Alpha Greenbriar sighed, "Tracy had just called to warn me. I was hoping to get there beforehand. Oh, and by the way, it's time for you to leave. I wish you the best of luck. Call me if you need anything."
