CHAPTER 57
Outside of Cub Creek Territory...
The afternoon light was waning as Remi started to glow with a white light. Skylar sat and watched him rise from off the ground and levitate in the air. The white light separated from his body and gathered together nearby. A ghostly figured was formed before solidifying.
The clearing was suddenly filled with people.
"Ivory!" Melanie said as she rushed forward to embrace her former friend.
Prince Grim smugly stood to the side.
Matthew Brush rushed forward and feel to his knees in reverence before the figure dressed in white.
"My Queen! I am Matthew Brush head of the Born Hunters! We are at your service, your Majesty! We will succeed in making the world perfect."
Ivory White stood silently. The man before her was a zealot with greed in his gaze. Melanie had been her best friend after leaving her sister. Grim was a psychopath that had been a tool to achieving her bloody reign. Looking at the peaceful woods around them and the clean smell of warm pine needles and moss. She remembered the ash and devastation. The stench of rotted bodies and the sound of weeping women and children.
If it were up to her company, there would be blood again and the world destroyed. Living life through the eyes of a young child made her realize that there would never be perfection but there was balance.
Closing her eyes, Ivory White remembered the words of the seer that freed her.
"You didn't move your last piece." Ivory called after her.
Shadow turned. "I make that last move and it means another death. The game is over. I choose not to move."
"Then you lose the game."
"There is no winning or losing. We are all on the same board. Even if I were to take the king. Those piece that are left will not change from white to black. They fight for their ruler. You are a queen in your own right and yes in many ways you are correct. There are changes should be made but these changes should be made in peace not with blood shed."
"They will not listen."
"Then lead by example. If they will not change then we must learn to compromise. It's not perfect but world isn't perfect and no matter how much blood you shed it will still be imperfect. This world is a beautiful disaster filled with beings that were given the right to choose."
Lucifer was a deceiver, this she knew though he always seemed to be honest with her, and the first half of the scroll she had read seems as though he had set her up. She didn't want to believe that he had but perhaps the second part of the scroll could either absolve him or at least tell her why she was betrayed. Taking a deep breath, she met the eyes of the two children who stared at her as if to await a response. But at the moment, she did not know how to answer.

Cub Creek Security Room...
Despite Jenna's protest, Calvin returned to work. Lee sat at his desk, staring blankly off into space. Calvin hated to see his mate looking so upset and stressed. He knew that Lee was fond of Dona who was like a second mother to him.
"I saw who shot me." Calvin said quietly. "It was Night."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Lee sat back. It was likely that Night had saved Calvin's life but he was also angry that the man didn't save Haggai. It was almost watching hospitals pick and choose who to save. Those with good insurance get better care while those without or have government insurance get the bare minimum and sometimes not even that. Hospitals are businesses but when your business is about saving people's lives, it makes everything more distasteful.
