DOUBLE UPDATE!!!!!!
CHAPTER 52
Forest Outside of Cub Creek Territory...
The hunter had had the perfect shot lined up to take down a plump rabbit. Before the trigger was pulled, he heard a noise behind him. Turning onto his back, from where he lay hidden, the victim saw a beautiful woman standing above him. Lady Melanie smiled as she watched the light leave the poor man's eyes.
Prince Grim grasped his Beloved's bloody outstretched hand and helped her stand. She cleaned her daggers on the man's coat taking a deep breath.
"I love the scent of blood and death in the morning. Makes me all tingly. Cared to make love on his still warm corpse, my love?" the witch asked flirtatiously.
"More than anything my darling but if you'll remember we are rather pressed for time and I promise we'll kill someone later."
Melanie's ice blue eyes glittered with malice. "We will be killing someone sooner rather than later. Our queen is here and they're about to make things a whole lot easier."
Security Room Cub Creek Territory...
Calvin gave his mate a heated kiss before packing up the remaining lunch Jenna had brought for them. Lee watched Calvin work as if their kiss hadn't stirred them both up and nothing had happened.
When Jenna had come by earlier, she only stayed long enough to eat a sandwich but Lee ended up eating her out on his desk. Calvin had simply stared out the window as if to give them privacy and Jenna had been uncomfortable at first until she had been too lost in bliss to care.
"You and Jenna need to talk." Lee said placing another kiss on his lover's pale pink lips. "I love you both equally but I can see that you've been distancing yourselves. You both deserve to be loved by each other as well."
Calvin shrugged. He really didn't want to talk about his feelings but there was one point that had bothered him. "I don't know. Thinking about pursuing another relationship feels like... cheating on our mate."
Sure, he cared about Jenna but he didn't want to cause problems by getting in the way of Lee and Jenna's relationship. He was grateful that Jenna insisted that Calvin and Lee spend time together because now the men were secure in their relationship.
"It's not cheating though. I love both of you and this is a three-way relationship. I've come a long way from the struggle of accepting what I was blessed with. I embrace it fully and want you two to be happy as well. You were together before I came into the picture. You shouldn't feel as if you should be tiptoeing around the other like you're both side pieces."
Lee looked up as a beeping noise caught his attention. One of the security monitors flashed an alert.
He immediately mind linked his alphas. They were in a meeting. Almost everyone that could wield was there with them. Except for Dona and Haggai.
Picking up the phone he called Dona.
Hearing the click of the line connecting he asked, "Are you been using magic near the perimeter fence?"
"Well, hello to you too Lee." Dona's husky voice came through. "If I haven't mentioned it before, you are like a son to me... you only call when you want something."
Lee chuckled at her scolding. "Sorry. I've just been really busy with everything."
Dona hummed. "To answer your question, no I haven't. Haggai and I have been at home for the last several hours."
Lee's brows furrow. "Well, something is causing the system to go haywire. I'm going to check it out."
"We'll meet you there." Dona said before hanging up without a goodbye.
"I'm coming with you." Calvin said as he stood up. He felt uneasy about letting his mate go alone.
"No. I need you to stay and keep on eye on the cameras until Link gets back."
"Then let me go instead. It's my duty as second Gamma to secure and check the perimeters."
Lee sighed when he saw the stubborn determinedness of his mate. "Fine. I'll let Dona know. Just be careful."
Calvin gave him a kiss before leaving the security room and headed to the fencing where the alarm was triggered. The feeling of foreboding intensified and he quickly put-up mental blocks so that his mates wouldn't be alarmed. Death was not something he feared. Anything happening to his mates, however, would be more than he could bear. They almost lost Lee once and this time he would be safe.
The forest was silent. There were no birds or squirrels. A sharp pain in his back took Calvin surprise. As he fell to pine needle laden ground, Calvin saw his attacker as consciousness began to fade.
"Traitor." He whispered.
------------------
Dona paused her step as a call came through.
"Where are you?" she asked.
"Calvin is down!" Lee's panicked voice came through the line.
"What do you mean?"
"I was watching him and then suddenly, he collapsed. He's at the edge of the forest."
"Alright. I'll go and check on him." Dona said.
"You go." Haggai said. "I'll check on the fence."
Dona started to pull away but Haggai stopped her. Cupping her face in his hands.
"Long ago Dellucy and I made a pack that we would stop Melanie no matter the cost for the near extermination of my kind. The Dellucy I knew is gone but I couldn't be happier that got to fall in love again. I love you, Dona." He said.
Dona smiled. "I never thought I would have another love like the one I had shared with my husband but I'm glad Dellucy found me. I love you too. Please be careful."
The couple separated. Haggai saw that there was a hole in the wall and the cameras nearby were melted. He could feel the hairs on his arm stand but his heartbeat to remain steady. Something was watching him. He already knew what was to come and had made peace with this. Shadow had warned him long ago and this was his noble end.
An invisible force pushed him outside the fence and further into the woods toppling his body. A light, airy laugh tinkled mockingly. Ignoring the new bruises, Haggai stood to his feet.
"The year is up, fox. It's time for you to die now." Melanie said. "Then all that will be left is that little fire fox. She'll be easy to handle."
Haggai laughed mockingly. "Asya is strong. You're going to die, bitch."
A look of pure evil crossed her beautiful face. "But not before you."
Haggai felt the blade pierce through his heart. The wizard chuckled, "You have always been a coward. Instead of 'Grim' they should have called you, 'Backstabber.'"
Prince Grim pulled his blade from the old man's back.
Haggai felt blood filling his lungs making him cough. He smiled as he fell to his knees, "You must be born of water and then born again of spirit. I was born of water when I came from my mother's womb. You haven't killed me, only this body. I will soon be born of spirit and will enter into the kingdom of the Creator. My life is complete and into my Father's hands I give my spirit."
The old wizard closed his eyes and felt nothing but peace as he separated from his earthly shell.
