CHAPTER 68
Sprite Kingdom...
Long ago, Queen Rosa, of the Sprite and Fairy Kind, chose her fate. She served under Ivory White trying to find a purpose after losing her husband. Her vows were given to the witch and it endangered her entire race. The horrors of mass genocide would forever weigh on her conscious. Knowing that she would have to free herself, she found an heir born from one of the many deaths at the order of the Sprite queen. Her nephew was to take her place and she was at peace even though it had meant her death.
Unfortunately, the magic she had taken from her late husband was tainted with a curse for he was no mere sprite but a demon in disguise. The curse of the damned was passed on and Firelight, the queen's nephew, was unable to rule.
His Other Half was a Dark Fairy and her name was Shula Green. The man she knew as her father was the former Dark Fairy King whose people had been wiped out during the last battle against Ivory White so that now, Athens Green and his daughter were all that remained.
In a surprising turn of events, Athens and Rosa discovered that they had been deceived. They were each other's true halves. In a private ceremony that only a few knew of, Queen Rosa transferred all of her power to her husband. Since they were fully mated, Rosa did not die during the transfer. Ivory White had been tricky when she wrote a contract for the queen. Rosa was little more than her puppet but if she tried to give up her power so that the armies of the fairy kind would no longer be obligated to serve under the witch, then she would die. Transferring power to her Other Half was a small loophole that Ebony Black or Lucy as she went by now, had found. But the tradeoff was that if the King Athen's died so would Rosa.
Holding her Other Half's hand, she stood next to him as he gave a speech to the troops that would be going with them into battle and addressed the people that had come to support them. The queen's sister Lily and her husband Marcus, stood on the platform as well. Should the queen, king, Firelight, and Shula die then they were to ascend to the throne.
Lily and Marcus absolutely hated the idea of power but knew that they would not be able to live in peace until someone took the throne. Should no one be in place then there would a power struggle and Lily and her husband would be killed. Fortunately, they wouldn't have to remain in power long. Priscilla, the Queen's Lady, and her Other Half, Reilly, were named "consorts" which gave their two oldest children Heirs Rights to the throne. Should Rosa, Athens, Firelight, and Shula die without issue then Amber and Jax Baines would be named Queen and King of the Sprite and Fairy Kind when they came of age with the support of their powerful grandparents, Lord Iskar and Lady Vita Thorne of the High Council.
Priscilla was to see to the running of the court and refreshing the training that Lily and Marcus had received so very long ago. Rosa looked at the woman she considered a trusted friend and sister. Her Lady looked poised and calm but Rosa could see the anxiety in the way she gripped each finger individually of her left hand with her right. Reilly had left a few days ago and would be going into battle.
Rosa wished that she could command him to stay behind for the sake of her friend but he was a Beta and a skill warrior who had the command of some of her most elite soldiers. The queen hoped that this would a sacrifice of time rather than lives. But such expectancy was unrealistic and no one was promised tomorrow.

Kansas...
"If my mate wasn't pregnant before I left, she definitely will be when I get back." Reilly said as he leaned back in his chair. "Ten months from now, there's going to be a shit ton of people with close to the same birthdays."
