Chapter 53

CHAPTER 53

Lee rushed to Calvin's side, his heart hurt seeing his mate laying on the ground so very still. Dona removed her hand from his neck and shook her head.

"It's strange." She said quietly.

"What?" Lee half sobbed as he tried to control his emotions.

"I-" Dona suddenly stopped and stood. "Stay with Calvin." She yelled and took off immediately without a word of explanation.

Lee wanted to follow but there was no way he could leave his mate's body alone on the ground. Picking up the taller man with a grunt. Lee carried him home.

Jenna was stirring the soup she had made when the scent of her mates reached her through an open window. She smiled until another whiff made her frown. Blood and a strange ammonia like smell made her gag. Replacing the lid, she ran to the front and threw open the door.

Lee walked in carrying his mate. Jenna's heart raced in panic as Lee continue towards the bedroom. Racing ahead, Jenna pulled back the covers as Lee laid Calvin down. Pulling his legs up and placing them on the bed, Lee stepped back.

"Lee!" Salim's voice broke through the worry in his mind.

"Sir?"

"We're under attack! Dona has called for aid."

"I need you to keep an eye on him." Lee said as Jenna stepped forward to examine the unconscious man. "I going to check on Dona, the Alphas are meeting me over there."

"I will." Jenna said as Lee placed a kiss on her brow and Calvin's then ran out.

Placing a hand on Calvin's brow she noticed that he was very warm and had started sweating. Gathering a bowl, cold water, and a wash cloth Jenna wrung out the rag and wiped the sweat away cooling the fevered skin.

Praying for the safety of her mate and the wellness of her child's father, Jenna thought about their relationship. An unwilling trio, they've come a long way. Lee accepted his sister's wolf's mate and his own. He loved them both. Jenna knew that she could have fallen in love with Calvin before she met Lee. But then she held back when Lee came into the picture. She didn't necessarily feel regret for what happened but it has put a strain on the relationship especially when the uncertainty was eating her alive.

Lee made his feelings clear but was it right to love another man when she had a mate? Would her mate be hurt to hear her say, "I love you" to someone else? If she allowed herself to fall in love with Calvin would there be more difficulties later? What if there were disagreements and Jenna had to pick a side? Would her love and sincerity be constantly called into question?

A low groan, made Jenna's attention snap to her patient. Her worry spiked when Calvin started shivering. Climbing onto the bed, she slipped under the covers and got as close as her pregnant belly would allow. Wrapping her arms around him, she held him while humming a light tune.

Night left the gun in the tree and climbed down. He stretched out stiff muscles before heading into the forest. Haggai's fate was already complete. The old wizard had made Shadow then Skylar promise that if it came down to a choice between himself and Asya, the small fire fox would live. Night was grateful to the old fox but wished that such a decision had remained unnecessary.

Going deep into the forest, he heard the sounds of the waterfall splashing against the rocks and adding to the pool below. Nestled on a boulder on top of one of his old shirts, was a patch of bright red.
