AUTHOR'S NOTE: I had actually tried to post this chapter last night (June 22, 2022) but we had huge storm come through so I guess the connection decided not to publish it. Oh well, here it is now.

CHAPTER 20

Cradle of Life...

Alec Sommers watched as supernatural creatures scrambled out of his way as he strode through the market. Their fear was evident yet the man showed no remorse or compassion. A group of Hunters were picking on an elderly werewolf mocking the poor man and his beast. Alec ignored them and ordered a cold drink from one of the booths. The rowdy bunch of Hunters began to catcall and whistle at a lone woman who was buying some vegetables from a vendor.

The young woman was beautiful and poise. She didn't bother to acknowledge or even look over at the men. As she started to move away, the woman was quickly surround. One of the bolder men reached out to grab her but paused when a horn sounded. The commander leading the group called out orders to reassemble. With a sneered and a quick grope, the man led the others away.

Free from their attention, the young woman raced away. Alec followed from silently behind. Entering the witches' sector, the young woman walked to the far end, away from the other houses. Making sure that no one else was about, Alec walked past the small house. Large shrubs grew on both sides of the path and he quickly ducked through them to run to a high fence on the back side of the house.

Three women were preparing a meal in the kitchen. "Alec!" one of the women called. She ran to his side as he captured her lips in a deep kiss.

"I've missed you so much." He said holding her tightly against him.

"Dad!" the young woman from the market said as she embraced her father.

He kissed her forehead and hugged her close. "Are you alright?" he asked with concern.

"I'm fine, Baba [Dad]." She assured him.

"Why wouldn't she?"

"What happened?"

Alec looked at his Soulmate, Zara, and then his sister-in-law, Zuri. "Some of the Hunters were bothering her."
