CHAPTER 36

Cradle of Life...

Alec took the harsh slap to the face without trying to block. The pain to his cheek didn't compare to the pain and relief in his heart. Zara collapsed into his arms as the shock wore off and the truth finally sunk in. Their daughter was alive and in Cub Creek.

Skylar's phone that morning was a huge relief. She told him to leave tomorrow tonight and to bring whoever needed to come.

"No more, Alec." His Soulmate said. "We've stayed long enough."

"I know." Alec sighed gathering into his arms and taking in her spicy clove scent. "I was trying to get you out. That's why I told the Protector to let Ebony Black know that you were here."

Zara looked at him. "I would have never left without you."

"I know. But I would have convinced you. Our daughter is everything. You must go. I'll come as soon as I can."

"No. No, no, no, NO!" Zara said empathically. "You are coming with us or I will kill Brush and all his minions."

A knock on the front door stopped their argument. Quickly reciting a spell, Zara hid the mark on Alec's cheek and the redness in her eyes. Smoothing her skirts, she answered the door.

One of the hunters stood there. Like many of the newer hunters he looked at her with disgust and hatred. It'll be so hard to change all the bad that the head of council had caused. But it reminded Zara of why Alec did this.

"Go tell your master I'm here." The young man said arrogantly.

"And who should I say is here?" she asked.

"Westley Garner. Hurry up!"

Zara simply nodded and went back to Alec's office.

"Westley Garner is here to see you sir."

Alec walked to the door and shut it. Pulling Zara to his chest, he kissed her. He poured all his love into that one action. "We'll go to Cub Creek together and then I want you, your sister, and our daughter to stay there. Please?"

Zara sighed, "I'll think about it."

Alec opened the door, "Thank you, Zara. You may go."

A young man stepped into the room after Zara left. Alec could see the family resemblance to his fellow councilman, Warren Garner. Alec was always leery of Warren. The man was shrewd and quiet. One would almost think he wasn't paying attention but Alec knew better and out of everyone, Warren Garner was the one he was very careful around. Looking at the young Hunter, Alec raised a brow. "Mr. Garner?" he greeted curiously.

"Just Wes, Sir. Council Brush has appointed me your new assistant."

"I don't need an assistant." Alec said, his face was a stone mask but inwardly worried about this new development.

"Council Brush insisted. Where ever you go, I go."

Cub Creek Territory...

Stealing the ring was easier than expected. Night teleported inside his father's room and Skylar was sitting there waiting for him with the ring in hand.

"How'd you get that?" Night asked in surprise.

"Grandfather left it here since they were going to the Cradle of Life to rescue some of your half-siblings."

"What? Wait no. Never mind, I don't want to know."

"Good luck, Uncle. Landon's body is repaired enough. Oh, by the way tell Razdor to find gold."
